  1. How about take them off. Give them a good clean. Then seal them with GTechniq C5 Wheel Armour. Then snow foam and pressure wash with perhaps agitation with a brush if you are unlucky.

    +1

Also recommend giving the Poorboys wheel sealant a go - I have found the stuff to be absolutely bullet proof!

  2. Dead simple, just go online and declare it SORN until it's insured again. Legal requirement and you've covered yourself. Takes two minutes.

I am sure that when I SORN'd my last car that you have to leave it that way for a period of time....cannot remember if it was weeks or months though

  3. im in reading and no they dont kick in at all

Are you able to plumb a 12V supply directly to them or would you not feel comfortable doing that yourself? I am not a million miles away but I will struggle for time to do a reading run before Christmas.

It sounds very much as though it is the fans at fault here - particularly if the level in the rad isn't changing. I seems a stretch for the garage to tell you that the water isn't circulating if they haven't spotted the fans never coming on.

Suposing it is the fans - you can either replace with standards (everyone will jump in and show you the Zedmanalex smiley shortly) or you could go aftermarket. I have used Spal and Kenlowe fans on previous cars and they have always been extremely efficient - be warned though, some are directional and some will go both ways (ooooh matron!)

Stick with it...it doesn't sound terminal, although appreciate the confidence knock when you are worried about watching the temp gauge

  4. Just bite the bullet, my zed also had a few issues (cooling fans went), dropped £700 and not looked back...

Once you climb back in it after having the work done, you'll forget all about it.

My car had a handful of issues when I got it which really got me down and took the shine off of a purchase that I had promised and worked up to.

Luckily I am quite handy with spanners so it was just a case of rolling up my sleeves and getting on with it.

Your problem sounds predominantly fan related - which is a common 'opportunity' with the zed. I would replace the fans, give it a full service - including fresh coolant and see how you go.

Is there any sign of the rad leaking or having had vast numbers of fins cleared?

Best get the planned modifications moving!

  6. British gas were doing a deal that they would do loft and cavity walls free if you were a dual fuel customer. As above though, council may also have deals on.

I had the loft done by British gas last year and it's made a world of difference - it's about 10" deep all over.

One point of note with the BG offer was that for them to do the loft, they have to be able to do the whole thing. That may need you to clear it out or pull up any boarding in there

  7. With all of the hard work that goes into the calendar I have found myself wondering how to make Jim's life easier...

What are the chances of getting a button or flag that would allow users to nominate a photo or highlight it for consideration of the calendar review board?

Monthly review of nominations or shortlist by vote without the need to pour through every thread to find candidates
