  1. Every one has different views on this question.

I personally prefer Iridium or Platinum

    Fit them and forget.

Is there any advantage in your experience of a particular metal that helps avoid pre ignition?

Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

Metal type has no influence on pre ignition, its heat range , mixture ,fuel type and ignition timing that will affect pre ignition or det,

However i have had experience of certain makes of iridium being rather fragile when it comes to det taking place.

All plugs actually have a copper core, its just the electrode outer that affects longevity, and as mentioned they go from so called copper, to iridium.

  2. Looks to me like the oil chamber in the lower plenum (which normally see oil from the pcv valve) is expelling oil up the bolt via the treads, then pooling on the top of the plenum.

Possibly the plenum itself hasn't been torqued down in the right sequence previously, leading to the centre sitting slightly proud and therefore the bolt not being able to tighten down correctly.

PS the bolts themselves on the inside, aren't exposed to vacuum.

Yes but if the bolt was not torqued down enough for oil to be getting into the drilling, there would also be a vacuum

Plus the oil in the plenum would also have to go uphill in order to be drawn into the drilling..

You can clearly see in this pic that the central posts are above the oil pooling area, and should this leak for whatever reason it would receive a vacuum all the time the engine is running, and at no time would there be any pressure, so if it was due to capillary action the oil would be sucked back as soon as the engine was running.

  3. The staining area looks quite big, and although i could understand getting capillary action from a crack, the inside of the plenum doesn't have an oil pooling area that could supply that much oil, and as i said if a crack opened with heat, the plenum vacuum would just suck all the oil inside.

  4. Thanks Strudul , that's exactly right ,

The power is smooth until 4000rpm then it feels like it hits a large Torque curve.

if the power was smooth the back end would be all over the shop from the start, not build smoothly to 4000 and release the beasts lol

I dont mean to ruffle any ones feathers or make a BS post. Its just some thing i was wondering about as i have no service history with the car and its got a custom exhaust.

It has not been remapped as i know of. its limited to 112 - 114 in 6th.

    Fantastic machine :)

If that is the case then i would suspect that the CVTCS has either been reprogrammed to cut in much more at 4k RPM (if that's possible through Up rev?) or is faulty and the solenoid is not kicking in and you just feeling the the cams sweet spot because its not working correctly

  5. In general small to medium spacers shouldn't make a vast difference to extra loadings, but 15 to 25mm will be fine, a good billet spacer with its own bolts/studs is better than using long studs, as your spreading the load over 10 short studs rather than 5 long studs.

They also shouldn't affect the alignment already done, but will give a slightly different feel.

  6. Again nice pics Chirag, starting to seriously make me think about selling my DSLR. ;)

Thanks mate :teeth: but why is it making you think of selling up instead of getting it back out?

Just seems like the new mirror-less cameras do a far better job, and are more portable......but then i also think you have a good eye and talent, mind you i think i have become over critical of the pics i take as well, and so get put off .

  7. @350zedd & Tricky-Ricky ~ Great ponds both. Love the slate and stones on yours 350zedd.

Does yours have a mini bridge Ricky? That's a lovely feature and the small water fall is very nice.

JEMAN as usual doing it in large scale. :teeth:;)

Yes i made the bridge when i extended the pond in the first year we moved, you can see it a little better in this pic, but the garden evolves every year, you wouldn't believe that this was how it all looked 4 years ago.

  8. Although high tunnel Sportster tanks are OK on the right style, to me it just doesn't work, so i will probably either adapt something or fit a mustang type tank (small fatbob style)

Just a couple of my older bikes, the Bonnie is from the late 90s and the kwacker iis my last, they had both been through some different incarnations, there are many more but some i dont even have pics of.

  9. Picturing you in a whole different way now Ricky. :surrender: Got "Born to be wild" playing in my head.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it, ...the colour is definitely not what I'd choose but everyone has different tastes.

Are you going to fit any gauges? As I notice it looks like it has none at all.

I'd imagine you may need to change the tyres as well if they're that old with the bike not being ridden.

LOL! i have a rather checkered past regarding bike culture, that song and the film has a lot to answer for, ;) rode from the age of 15, until i sold my last bike in 2001, so its going to be errr interesting, getting back in the saddle again......perhaps painful given its a hard-tail and I'm a little long in the tooth.

It has a speedo, but i will fit an oil pressure and temp gauge, as i am going to ditch the oil cooler, as i don't think its necessary, as for styling its going basic for now, satin black and some polishing, chrome and stainless, and in the low rider- bobber style, low flat bars etc.

Motor is a little low on compression, but it could well have a sticky ring or two so i will run it before i tear it down unnecessarily.

  10. The fanny pad will be staying, well after recover,so will the sprung solo as i am going for the bobber look, but not sure how long the wife will tolerate it LOL! but i hate the king & queen seats,

Unfortunately the brakes will also be staying, but they do look small in those pics, will look better without the daft chrome caliper covers, and cross drilled.

  11. For those that are into bikes, i now have a new project that i really didn't expect, with a heavy heart i have taken on this bike T160 Triumph trident chop, due to recently loosing a very good friend, and his family has asked me to take it on and rebuild it/get it running, as there is nobody else that could, or ride it for that matter.

So its been passed to me with the proviso that i build it and ride it for as long as i am able and then pass it back, however in the future i may well buy it, but just don't have the resources right now.

Long story short he was involved in an accident 25-30 years ago and lost his nerve with bikes, but couldn't get rid of it, and always said he would ride again, but due to suffering servers depression in recent years, he has never got any further with it.

Years ago i re spayed it and despite me trying to persuade him that the colour was just wrong, he went ahead and put it together as you see it here, and then it sat in his flat until this sad time.

So to me it only fitting that i build it again and ride it as he always intended, as a kind of rolling tribute, i will be changing quite a lot of things, as there is now way i would ride that colour, and some of the styling is a little questionable, plus there are some safety aspects that need addressing.

Anyway i,ll keep this updated, but don't know just how long it will take me depending on the amount of new parts needed, but its already in my breakfast room sharing with the cat, as there is no way it will fit in either of my sheds, and still have room to work.

I have already decided that as a light hearted tribute the new tank with have BFG on the sides as to my wife he was always known as The Big Friendly Giant, as he was 6.7 ft and weighed 300lbs, and the wife is 5ft LOL!

Anyway here is a pic before it has a quick wash.

  12. In my experience heat soak is only really a problems at low speeds/traffic when air flow is slow enough to negate the boundary layer effect, providing of course that the intake has accesses to a good outside airflow, if not and its sucking in under bonnet air you starting with a disadvantage anyway.
