  1. O2 sensor 1 of bank 1 and 2 are used by the ECU to monitor for the correct air fuel mix, whereas sensors 2 of bank 1 and 2 are the cat monitors, and use a much reduced signal variation and cycle, and in normal circumstances not used to monitor fuel mix, and so will show a completely different reading to sensors 1.

However on looking at your gauges again it would seem that it is reading sensors 1, a so it would seem that one sensor is reading low, which would indeed prompt the ECU to add more fuel,

Does that reading change much at various RPM/load? if not then that a fair indication that the sensor is dead.

  2. Yes what with the bird feeders and a pond full of Koi and other fish, we must spend about £30-40 a month on food for them, never realised just how much those little buggers can get through

Apart form lots of suicidal pigeons we also get lots of Pheasants (English roadrunner) and Partridges that I spend half my time trying to avoid in the car, and the rest of the time just hoping that a Muntjac deer doesn't suddenly decide to jump in the road, and while I hate to kill any animal unnecessarily, they don't half make a mess of the front of the car, built like small tank.

  3. The size type is designated by the plug number, just pull one and make a note of the number, then you can go to factor, or on line shop and they should be able to cross reference to get you any equivalent make of the same type, IE reach, thread size, extended tip, resistor etc etc.

  4. Any equivalent plug whether copper core, platinum or iridium will be fine, not over keen on iridium for boosted application's myself, too fragile IMO.

Not sure about heat range 8, seems a little too cold to me, but cant remember if std is 5 or 6, but if its been mapped with 8 then stick to that, as a lot of tuners seem to use a cold plug as a safety measure.

  5. Nice! :) we like to watch the birds, we have multiple feeders, and we are almost rural, small village and are starting to get some of the birds we want to encourage,Greenfinch, Siskin, don't often see the Goldfinches, got a pair of resident wrens, love those birds, bold big voice for such a small bird, we also occasionally get a Goldcrest, also get a pair of Long tailed Tits that come and tap on the patio doors

for attention, the only drawback is the dam woodies, buggers crap everywhere.

  6. Basically pipe size is far more of a restriction when N/A, but not so when FI, so its unlikely you will need a larger throttle body until you reach a much higher power figure, I am pretty sure that the std item can easily cope with 600BHP.

  7. Saw your post over on the Skyline forum, I have previously owned a Supra for four years, driven R34 and R32, but never driven an RX7, if you want to actually carry an adult passenger the Skyline is the only one that can accomplish this, I have taken my teenage (at the time) daughter on a 600 round trip in the back of the Supra with a few complaints.

As for reliability and tuneabuility the Supra wins hands down, its easy to gain a reasonable amount of power for relatively little money, build quality is far better than a Skyline ( cant comment on the RX)

The Skyline are harder to get more power out of without spending serious money in comparison, and much more fragile and troublesome, the Supra is a much nicer drive full stop.

  8. well after buying my z a couple of weeks ago theres been a problem when starting the car when its warm. when i turn the key its cranks over a few seconds longer then starts up but it sounds like it cranks and cranks and cranks then just slightly catches and its a sluggish start, then the revs pick up and its fine. it drives spot on not missing or anything and when its cold its fires up on the first click, its just literally when its warm. I've already changed the oil and filter, air filter because they needed doing and also changed all the spark plugs but still no luck. any help would be grateful

    thanks in advance

I would check the ECU coolant temp sensor resistance against the manual spec, if its failed or reading incorrectly the ECU will normally add more fuel by default, which makes hot starting difficult , but will be fine on cold start, you may also notice your fuel consumption is a bit higher.

  9. Agreed! its not all about dyno mapping, IMO to get the best from a map it need both road and dyno, as both on their own will miss certain load areas, although having said that I have mapped all my cars on the road.

FBT yes I can remember Jez and John was it? still trying to finish a map as they turned up for roiling road days on more than one occasion.

  10. Que the Engineer jokes, a couple of my favorites...and yes I have worked in the field in the past.

Q: What is the definition of an engineer?

A: Someone who solves a problem you didn't know you had, in a way you don't understand.

An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, "Ah, you're an engineer -- you're in the wrong place." So the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in. Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After a while, they've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy.

One day, God calls Satan up on the telephone and says with a sneer, "So, how's it going down there in hell?" Satan replies, "Hey, things are going great. We've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there's no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next."

God replies, "What??? You've got an engineer? That's a mistake -- he should never have gotten down there; send him up here." Satan says, "No way. I like having an engineer on the staff, and I'm keeping him. God says, "Send him back up here or I'll sue." Satan laughs uproariously and answers, "Yeah, right. And just where are YOU going to get a lawyer?"

There are three engineers in a car; an electrical engineer, a chemical engineer and a Microsoft engineer. Suddenly the car just stops by the side of the road, and the 3 engineers look at each other wondering what could be wrong. The electrical engineer suggests stripping down the electronics of the car and trying to trace where a fault might have occurred. The chemical engineeer, not knowing much about cars, suggests that maybe the fuel is becoming emulsified and getting blocked somewhere. Then, the Microsoft engineer, not knowing much about anything, comes up with a suggestion, "Why don't we close all the windows, get out, get back in, open the windows again, and maybe it'll work!?"

  11. Don't forget that changing your wheels to a different ET will do just the same, so all those that are running non std wheels with a higher offset are in effect running spacers, I have done similar on several different cars and while on some the effect is negative, on some its quite positive.

  12. When I was issued with a similar fine from Lidl I did a lot of reading, and the general consensus is don't pay, as they are a private parking company and have to prove their case, which entails you being in no doubt about the regulations of the parking, so the signs have to be big enough and clearly displayed, which isn't as easy as you might think.

The other part is the cost of taking you to court, they have to be very sure they can win otherwise they pay all the costs, in general they rely on scare tactics in the hope most people will cough up, in my case I simply wrote to the CEO of Lidl complaining about the fact that I was a regular customer and had only gone over by 10 mins, and it went away.

  13. Basically adding the extras tank will give you more spraying time before the pressure reaches a point where you start to notice the pressure drop at the gun, but obviously the two tanks will take considerable more time to fill, and the compressor will struggle to keep the tanks filled once your using the air, but it should work fine, I have used my little 50lt 1hp compressor set up to spray a mates truck cab, and although it drops quickly because the tank is small it fills quickly, so I think you may well get away with spraying most or even a complete car before the pressure gets too low
