  1. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=29366 Good luck...I still haven't sorted mine out.
  2. I took the door card off on Saturday, following the instructions I have been directed to. But under the door card there is an inner metal panel which keeps the window mechanism hidden. (This may not surprise anyone here but remember that I am a novice when it comes to taking things to pieces and I didn't really know what to expect to see). There are some spy holes in this metal panel, covered with stuck-on black material. I peeled one of these off and think I located the reset button. So then I reset the window, having printed off those instructions too. I wasn't brave enough to take off the inner metal panel and spray my new can of electrical contact cleaner about, not least because there were so many bundles of wires protruding. Feeling that I had already gone far enough outside my comfort zone, I put the door card back, which took a certain amount of effort/swearing. The window then worked properly for the rest of Saturday. Sniffing triumph in the air, I went to open the driver's door on Sunday morning but it started playing up again. So I am now getting in and out via the passenger door, it being impossible to close the door properly if the glass won't shunt down in time. Not very dignified. I think I had better find an independent garage/auto electrician to look at it and maybe fit a whole new window mechanism.
  3. Right, well, I'm going to print off the instructions for taking the door to pieces and put electrical contact cleaner on my shopping list for tomorrow morning...
  4. I'm in Bedfordshire, bounty78. I think that I should be able to get a new motor/regulator cheaper via ebay/someone here. I phoned the dealer and said not to bother (I hadn't realised 10% of the value of my Zed was in the front windows!). I'll have a go at taking the door to bits (with trepidation) at the weekend and let you know how I get on... Thanks to all.
  5. Chaps, I have a problem with the driver's window, which I see from using the search button is not that uncommon. It started not going up when it should, which I rectified by thumping the door. Now it won't shunt up/down when opening/closing the door, so I need to get it fixed. I have used the search button and read some useful threads but, not being very technical I took in to Allen Nissan in Dunstable. They say it needs the whole window mechanism replacing for which they would like me to pay them £526.97....it must be a pretty special window mechanism. Since the motor clearly still works (although it grinds a bit), I wonder if it just getting at the mechanism, cleaning it up a bit and greasing it would be worth a try. I looked at the guide for taking the door to pieces but even that looks like a big job for me. If the regulator is playing up then that would need replacing....but the dealer says you have to replace the whole gubbins and I have to pay them over £500 to do so. If anyone could give a steer as to whether I should risk having a go myself or has any other bright ideas, please let me know!
  6. Yes, I'll be there and see you at Toddington.
  7. Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would add to this one but I don't know how that will work if this thread is two years old... My car is parked at a station car park all day and it rained a lot yesterday. I got back to the Zed in the evening and the passenger footwell was wet - not just a bit wet but completely sodden. It sounds like the story on this thread. It's quite an alarming amount of water. There is no obvious place where it is coming from. The ceiling is dry, the windscreen surround is dry. The hole around the near the back of the centre console where the passenger's right foot would be seems to be dry. I think I had better take it to the dealer to have it sorted out - although I'm off on holiday tomorrow so that may be tricky. The car was very steamy this morning so I had the windows down and the heat on full. One query though: "it also runs down the door shut behind the weather strip along the kick plate and into the foot well" says someone above. But what is a weather strip?! (Sorry be a bit dim about this).
  8. A very good post and a great road trip. And the Zed commendably clean for the photos after all that driving.
  9. M13KYF says the engine needs to be cold to check the oil but doesn't the handbook say you should do it when the engine is warm? I'm a bit paranoid about this - my previous car (6cly BMW) used to drink lots of oil and I just kept pouring it in - but so far my Zed has been quite a modest consumer....but I have been religiously checking it with the engine warm...
  10. My dad made a tonneau for me. Very cheap/free. No sniggering please.
  11. I got Halfords ones for my trip around France. They come with detailed instructions which are pretty helpful. I haven't removed them since getting back though....I hope they don't leave nasty mark on the lens.
  12. Well, I'm pretty new to the Zed. I got mine in May. It is 5 years old and I think it is completely standard (although there is a sticker on the rear screen which I think is an air filter (?) brand) - I certainly haven't added anything to it. I like it very much. It's my favourite thing. I drive it every day. A small meet in this area would be good. Where do you go for servicing? I left a message with Nissan in Milton Keynes but they didn't even bother to get back to me.
  13. Thank you Zazur. I have been back from driving through France for some weeks now. I have to say I didn't even notice that there were any new speed limits. The Zed is really in its element at fast cruising on French motorways. I did 500 miles in one day (that's a lot for me) and the Zed was quite happy, very relaxed. In just over 2000 miles of driving in two weeks I only saw one Zed - they seem to be pretty rare in France. The one I did see, south of Paris, saw me first and there was a good deal of flashing winkers and waving which was nice.
  14. Thank you for the welcome and the wisdom. I shall leave the Birdview alone and stop worrying about the Bose hiss: it isn't skipping and it sounds good.
  15. Well I live in Dunstable and my Z is outside the house but it's not me because mine is 54 plate and doesn't have any funny spoilers or other bits.
