Creeky steering

Hey guys

Been on a long day outs drive today and I have noticed a creeking noise when I steer but only from left to right not the other, the noise sounds like it's under the car from say the rack area.

 

Does anyone have any thoughts or experienced the same issue

 

Just to add my car is a 2007 HR with 34000 miles

Could be numerous things including the steering column coupling.

Thanks I really don't think it could be a rack problem sounds like a dry joint of some sort to me, there goes my weekend investigating

Power steering fluid? The system can make some weird creaking noises when you get towards full lock if the fluid is low.

Thanks for the suggestion I've checked level and it seems ok, I'm gonna change fluid as matter of course. The creeky noise still happens when the car isn't running but as I said only one way it's strange

Yeah, doing it one way is indeed odd. Check the condition of all the rubber bushings in the steering/suspension setup. Droplinks and the like.

I had this changed drop links no creeks anymore

Try WD40, give it a good soaking it wont hurt.

Just an update guys it's not the drop links, both changed and still the same noise, interesting it doesn't do it when up on the ramp with wheels in air, still can't work out where it's coming from :-(

Final update all diagnosed now it's the compression arm bush, completely collapsed and can only see it in a certain position. Order placed with Clarks, thanks for the input you lot :-))
