Yep they'll work. Any 501 LED/bulb will work for the number plate lights.

Cree are supposed to be better quality from what I've heard not sure if they're much brighter.

 

For the price of them you could always buy them and if they're too bright for your tastes then just keep them as spares for the sidelights or boot light then buy the others for the plate light.

 

I have 5 SMD LED's in my number plate lights which work great ~ looks much more modern now. Good luck whichever you choose.

It's a SMD strip I have wired into mine.

Couple of quid off Ebay and a straight wire in.
