Removing cat exhaust heat shields - replacements ?

So following on from my exhaust woes thread, I think the noise is coming from the part of the heat shields which aren't fixed to the car (why they designed it like that is odd).

Anyway, I'm going to try ripping them out or modifying them to see if that get's rid of the cobra-induced-rattle.

 

If it does, and they come out - I'd like to try something in their place as I can often feel some heat already with the decats there.

Any recommendations as to what I could try ?

Personally I wouldn't bother, but if you must, what about heat wrapping the decats? Tarmac has some wrapping kits in his section at the moment

Ah I see, yeah that could be a fair alternative to do. Wouldn't it mean that another part of the exhaust could get hotter though ? (I have no idea, just throwing that out there!)
