DiscoPotatoes Posted March 2, 2014 Share Posted March 2, 2014 Hi I'm hoping someone can shed some light, I checked the oil this morning and it was about half full on the dipstick, so topped it up. When I started it it sounded like the bearing were dry and it made an awful racket, so i turned it off and tried again, the same thing happened but to a slightly lesser extent, so turned it off and restarted, the rattling went away after a couple of seconds and was good as gold for the rest of the day. Anyone else had this? I thought about using lucas oil stabiliser which is incredible stuff, I use it in all my other vehicles (engines/ gearboxes/ diffs)but they are high flow low pressure systems. The stuff is really sticky and eliminates dry starts, but I'm sure it thickens the oil a bit so not sure if its ok to put it in an engine that likes thin oil. mattross1313 Posted March 3, 2014 Share Posted March 3, 2014 I wouldnt say mine had an 'awful racket', but on start up there was a rattle for 1-3 seconds. I think it was caused by the timing chain being slightly loose, and the few seconds of rattle are before the tensioners come up to pressure.
