Dry start after sitting for 5 days

Hi I'm hoping someone can shed some light, I checked the oil this morning and it was about half full on the dipstick, so topped it up.

When I started it it sounded like the bearing were dry and it made an awful racket, so i turned it off and tried again, the same thing happened but to a slightly lesser extent, so turned it off and restarted, the rattling went away after a couple of seconds and was good as gold for the rest of the day.

Anyone else had this?

I thought about using lucas oil stabiliser which is incredible stuff, I use it in all my other vehicles (engines/ gearboxes/ diffs)but they are high flow low pressure systems. The stuff is really sticky and eliminates dry starts, but I'm sure it thickens the oil a bit so not sure if its ok to put it in an engine that likes thin oil.

Cheers

Isn't this the hydraulic tappets, they drain and it takes a second or so for them to fill and pressure up

Obviously not helped by the longer a car is left standing and low oil

The culprit of a noisy bearing is often the alternator, I certainly wouldn't be adding an oil additive on the description you gave
