Its still the police that prosecute as far as I'm aware.. These guys would give info to the court in just the same way as if a few of us make a complaint of speeding against someone (and we had a calibrated speedo).

The only difference is that most of the people doing the Highways job are ex traffic officers and no doubt would be treated as expert witnesses at court..

Its only a small step away from pushing it all out to local councils, just like parking fines.. We all know how well that works! :headhurt:

Had a similar thing happen on Tuesday on the M25 between J17\18, one of those traffic officers did a rolling roadblock and then brought us to a halt as a Fiat Tipo had broken down in the outside lane, car in front of me did nothing more than pull across to the hard shoulder and then speed off down that, I don't know if they got his number....

No they can't do you..... but according to this story, can report you, probably take evidence etc and pass onto the cops, then you can get done!

Sounds like this guy deserved it, but something to think about next time you see one......

Dunno about anywhere else, but on the roads of North West & surrounding areas there are loads of these hornets now! :headhurt:

Sounds fair enough. its the sort of thing that they should get done for. As mentioned they will have just been giving evidence of what they witnessed. In the same way they should be able to get people done for flying down hard shoulders etc.

Big difference between then giving evidence in a case like this to one involving speed etc. Black & white cases like going thought a closed lane is simple enough. When judgment is involved its completely different.

As you say they do not currently have the powers that the police do........................but watch this space. It is only a matter of time.

They seem to have replaced a lot of the routine duties on the motorway that the police used to do. In all fairness though, in the South West (M5)they do currently seem to do a good job. Help broken down motorists etc on the motorway. Time will tell.

An update on this as there is a statement in the current auto express.

They are only there to divert or steer the flow of traffic and can report drivers who ignore there warnings and are putting other driver at risk.
