De-cat fitting question

When fitting Decats is the original bracket which mounts to the cat and gearbox used reason I ask is mine has rotted through and broke away from the right hand cat

If the de-cats have the mounts it can be used - I don't use it on my setup, de-cats are lighter so need less support than the OEM cats which are bloomin heavy.

 

So if it looks OK and is solid you can get away without, if in doubt or you want the extra support get a new one

Depends on what decats. My first japspeed ones had a bracket but once they snapped the replacement ones didnt have one and neither did the silenced ones. Ive just took my bracket off

What decats are you fitting? Can you do them on your back easily enough?

Haven't bought any yet mate but been underneath and looks easy enough to do on your back if like mine and all your nuts are corroded up then it might be a pain though

I had a quick look a few weeks ago, the bolt heads are very corroded, they actually look completely round

If that don't work grind them off and put a new nut and bolt through the flanges

You're not looking at the wrong side are you? The OEM Cats to Y pipe has 2 captive bolts so one side is round and welded in, the other side is the nut - which I grant you mat well be corroded to nothing much - grinder time.

 

The top joints to manifold IIRC 2 point down and 1 up - you can with a "wobble" bar or UJ and extension bar get to them from the top with the help of "a Buster"* or other mate

 

 

* a Buster = the largest but possibly most useful tool in the Zed Shed

Luckily for me I'm having a custom header back system made so that will be the exhaust guys headache thankfully as this kind of thing stresses me out

Any ideas where i can get a set of silenced decat pipes? Ordered some from H-Dev but they don't have stock at the moment and a quick search hasn't found much....

Abbey do them I think but probably have to order them in and tarmac sports does them aswell I think

Didn't think of Abbey, i'll give them a call. I'm after a silenced one, Tarmac don't do those ones.
