Headlight types? and show me your modded lights.

Can anyone help me out,

 

I managed to damage one of my headlight lenses recently so I need to replace it. What options of headlights are there, I see so many aftermarket options (which i don't really want to go down that route). I would rather paint the inserts on mine whilst I take the lens of etc.

 

What OEM lights are there?

 

I know there is:

- 2003 - 2005 lights which you can't paint all black apparently due to the restrictiveness of the HID or something? Or has anyone painted all of it?

- Then there's the insanely priced 2006+ lights which you can paint all black?

 

Then am I right in saying you can get JDM headlights but these don't use auto adjust or HID and they can be told apart as they have a partly black surround from the factory?

 

Plus has anyone opened up their lights and painted them? If so can I see some pics?
