live2themaxuk
Hey Ive been installing my sound system lately, and im on the last stages. Today, i did the obligatory upgrading of the factory 'battery earth to chassis' wire. Just used some 4AWG cable and some soldered connectors, connected from the negative battery terminal directly onto the standard earth point under the bonnet. I cannot believe the difference it has made. I knew the factory wire was ****-poor but the differences i noticed were immediate, starting with my seat motors working faster. . . .seriously So far ive noticed 1)Fuel pump whirr is faster 2)Less 'Kangarooing' when changing down at low speeds 3)Smoother pickup through the rev range. . . . . . 4)easier to pull away 5)My seat motors work more efficently. . . This was only the negative to chassis wire, i wonder if i did the 'other' wires like to the block etc it would make even more of a difference. . . i dont know. . . Its incredible. I know ground kits are always a good thing to have, but after upgrading the earths on my other jap car (AZ-1) i didnt notice any differences in drivability , but THIS is something else. . . . In the wise words of Starsky and Hutch. . . . .'Dooo it. . . . . dooo it' You wont regret it Jamie
Beavis
Glad you noticed a difference on yours, but i think that it pot luck if your car is badly earthed or not. I fitted a grounding kit on mine and did not notice a difference on mine, but its nice knowing that it is properly grounded because the standard grounding cable to chassis is rubbish. Billy7766
Ummm forgive the fng question boys but wtf does a ground kit actually consist of (roughly) and why would it have the effects mentioned by Jamie?
Beavis
Ummm forgive the fng question boys but wtf does a ground kit actually consist of (roughly) and why would it have the effects mentioned by Jamie? Basically its a bunch of very low resistance cable connected to key points of your engine and chassis to improve your electrical grounding, to basically improve electrical performance in key areas like your throttle body and ecu as the standard earthing connection leaves very little to be desired. http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic ... highlight=

You can't say grounding kits don't work cos your DIY effort didn't I did not say that the grounding kit did not work, i said it was car specific, if your zed is already well grounded then it wont make a noticable improvement, but if it is not then i can understand if it does. Its worth doing anyhow if for only peace of mind over the crap Nissan set up. And believe you me Sarnie my leads are just as good because i use the same cable and i use proper low oxygen free copper cable and lugs which are properly crimped. 25MM Cable is a hell of a size for grounding. Chris`I
I guess there is no way to tell if you have bad ground without upgrading to see? Might just have to get a kit when I get paid.
