kano Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I've got a nasty loud whining noise when pressing and releasing the clutch of my zed. In neutral or when the clutch pedal is fully pressed in there's a bit of noise but not too much, it's only when the pedal is moving when its really noisy. Any ideas? I've been told its the release bearing? Car is a 2004 plate with 78k miles on its first clutch (I think).. Cheers! Quote
Ricey Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) Yeah I've had that suble on every car I've ever owned. Generally if the clutch is performing ok otherwise its nowt really to worry about (unless its a fairly horrific noise). With that milage and year I would expect a change in noise if I depressed the clutch but nasty whiny..........eek Edited January 8, 2013 by Ricey Quote
kano Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Just made a video and uploaded it to youtube! This is how noisy it is! Quote
Ricey Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Thats definitely got a vibratory quality too it hasn't it! Does sound like the bearing is shot. May be worth seeking the advice of Zmanalex re it being worth changing the bearing or the whole whack while you've got a mech rummaging round. 1 Quote
Ebized Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 That's more than a noisey bearing that is a common issue and nothing to worry about. With the mileage your ZED has covered it maybe a worn flywheel/clutch. Quote
kano Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 I've no idea what it is. Slightly worrying. But I've bought a replacement Exedy clutch, and I'll probably get an oem flywheel at some stage too. Buying the bits over a few months as its flipping expensive! Quote
beetleben Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 with the mileage on it a new clutch would be expected and from research you probably got an extra 40k out of it than expected. Hope you get it sorted Quote
