Reader is usually better but if not to hand do the dance.

The dance just resets though?

So for fault finding, need the reader?

Dance also tells you the code before you reset it.

I got ebay one, not perfect for pinpointing but gives an idea of where it is. I.e. my broken backpipe, the reader suggests cat converters, but atleast it points to exhaust
