Rear axel 1/2" movement

Hi. Just had some new tyres fitted. The guy said that there was about 1/2 an inch movement on the rear wheels when he was removing them. He was unsure whether it was normal, maybe something to do with the diff?

He also said that he heard the car click as I reversed back and braked. As if the wheels had an extra 1/2" turn before that stopped?

Any ideas?

Thanks Steve

Sorry dude but I think you've had no replies as you need to be more specific - do you mean the wheel rotated 1/2" or do you mean the wheel (when lifted) could be moved 1/2"? If the latter, it's pretty serious.

I believe he meant that it could be rotated 1/2 inch. Normal?

Just in case ... to check for clicking axle..lower the drivers window and roll on and off the throttle in 1st gear..thats when you get the clicking...normally you cant hear it with the window up....Oh and Ive never felt 1/2" play in the rotation of any modern axle...1920's axles when very worn then yes. Maybe this helps???? if not ignor.
