Vibration on half lock...

Been out in the car today for the first time in a few weeks.

Pulled out of the road and was tootling a long, pulled round a right hand-er (quite tight) and the steering wheel juddered loads.

Found a closed car park, drove around a bit and it did the same on a left turn. But only at half lock (no more) and at a semi decent speed (30ish?)

Anyone know what this could be? Straight line drives fine, normal lefts and rights (even large roundabouts) absolutely fine.

But tight turns and small roundabouts, judders pretty bad :(

Could it be the Power steering fluid/pump?

Had the same problem on mine - turns out it was the power steering pump had gone. Most likely cause, however, is air in the system, so try bleeding it properly to start with (it can take a while to get all the air out). There is a thread about it somewhere - have a search.

Correct bleeding technique is listed below:

1. Stop the engine, and then turn the steering wheel fully to right and left several times.

NOTE:

While air bleeding the Hydraulic System, frequently check the reservoir tank, add additional fluid up to the

MAX level, if necessary.

2. Run engine at idle speed, hold steering wheel at each “lock†position for about three seconds.

3. Repeat the 2nd procedure several times at about three seconds intervals.

CAUTION:

Do not hold steering wheel in the locked position more than 10 seconds. (It is the possibility that

oil pump may be damaged.)

4. Check generation of air bubbles and cloud in the fluid.

5. If the air bubbles and the cloud don't fade, stop the engine, leave air bleeding behind until the air bubbles

and the cloud fade. Perform the 2nd and the 3rd procedures again.

6. Stop the engine, check fluid level.

Just checked it now it is cold... it is on "Min Cold"

So I guess I should top it up to between Min cold and Max cold.

Alex, which bottle should I use? I have a load of Nissan Grey bottles from you. Which one should I use?

Take it up to max cold, if cold, with KE908-99931

Check the numbers on the bottles very carefully as they are all very similar.

Alex. :)
