bodeboo Posted September 4, 2011 Share Posted September 4, 2011 had my car for about a month now and all is good apart from the fact that the volume and seek controls on the left hand side of the wheel do not work. Correction, they work but intermittently, it seems that when I have the steering wheel turned one way or the other the controls seem to work but driving straight the dont. techinstaller Posted September 5, 2011 Share Posted September 5, 2011 the squib would be the coiled cable connection unit used on most modern cars between the steering wheel and the column which coils and uncoils as you turn left and right basically and which carries the air bag /stereo /cruise etc connections across from a stationary bit of the car to a constantly moving part ie the steering wheel ,obvoiusly a normall bunch of wires would not work as they would need to increase and deacrease in length as you turned the wheeland would in any case soon fracture,that is sort of the simplest description in basic terms,they do however fail at some point hope that helps Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This is most likely your fault but it is not wires that break ect. It is basically a circuit board that controls everything. When the steering rack was out I turned the steering wheel past where it should not have turned and had to replace the clock spring to get the horn/steering wheels control to work. It is a very sensitive delicate little piece. Is your horn working? As if the spiral cable is broken then the horn should not work. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
bodeboo Posted September 7, 2011 Author Share Posted September 7, 2011 thanks for the replies so far... the horn works fine as do the controls on thr right hand side of the wheel (cruise control) - its just the seek/volume stereo controls that do not work... any further help on how to diagnose or resolve the issues would be appreciated.
