Cheesypuff
Hi, could a tyre expert suggest tyre sizes for an 18" x 8.5 square setup please? I haven't got the foggiest
Stew
I just searched 'square setup' and there are quite a few results. Are you wanting a square setup on the tyres or staggered?
Cheesypuff
Well the wheels will be a square setup 8.5 all round. As the oem six spoke wheels are also a square setup 8.0 all round but are fitted with wider tyres on the rear than the front I thought that would be the way to go, is that right? Stew
People have done both hence me asking. I guess ultimately tyre size would come down to how you want the car to look and how aggressive the offsets are.
Cheesypuff
Offsets are 30 all round, maybe fitting spacers later. I just want to keep as close to standard as possible really.
Stew
With 8.5s and 30 offsets you'll need spacers. I always feel that if you are changing wheels then you might aswell get it right first time.

Ekona
Nothing wrong with having a square setup with your wheels, but you MUST keep the stagger between front and rear else you'll end up with a horribly oversteery car that's going to try and kill you at every attempt. Keep it a minimum of 20mm like stock is (i.e. 225/45/18 and 245/45/18), or increase the rear size if you want more grip at the rear.
Cheesypuff
That's answered my question thanks.
lrh
I guess ultimately tyre size would come down to how you want the car to look I hope there's still some owners here who care about handling ...you MUST keep the stagger between front and rear else you'll end up with a horribly oversteery car that's going to try and kill you at every attempt Not that dramatic and going too wide will result in understeer.
