MadGrip Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I'm off to look at a 350z on Tuesday night, just wanted to know if theres anything in particular I should look out for. The car is an 03 GT with UK satnav, brembos, leccy heated leather seats etc, in burnt orange. It has covered 36000 miles and is a JDM The guy is asking £16k which I think is a fair price cheers Phil Quote
lomoto Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Sounds about right price if it's in mint condition check for clicking axles at rear and do a full systems check as per any used car purchase... loads of threads on here about what to look out for ..click that search button Quote
Mathys Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Check for any paint damage on the front bumper; unevitable but you can use it to bring the price down. Also check the seats for any serious damage. Ask for the service history. Quote

lomoto Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Oh yes check the electric window operation, and make sure they drop and raise when the door opens/ closes Quote
MadGrip Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 thanks for the advice I'll let you know how I get on cheers Phil Quote
Leenx Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 How'd you mean clicky axles? those of you who know I've got a triptronic JDM Zed and am occassionally noticing a kinda clunk sound when I'm about to drive off sometimes (no jokes please like I've run over the cat or the other half) wondered what this could be? (and by the way sorry for stealing the thread - might be of interest to this?) Cheers Quote

Cheers Clicky axles are heard from rear from standstill as you set of in reverse or forward gear....unmissable sound, you'll not confuse it with anything else Quote
Leenx Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Sounds like that could be on mine!! how to I get this confirmed and what would be the likely cause? Quote
lomoto Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Sounds like that could be on mine!! how to I get this confirmed and what would be the likely cause? axle is the problem, do a search on here for cure...there are a couple of cures, one just involves spinning the half shafts 180 degrees round on the diff Quote
Leenx Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Did the searches but this rear axles problem tends to be a cling noise but mine is a definitive clunk usually only happens once like when you're about to drive off. I've let it go in the past but the post about rear axle problem has got me thinking! Not sure whether to leave it or not? I've had the car recently delimited (noise was happening before this) do you think these guys would of sussed out a problem when they were doing this work? Quote

Fitting a delimiter under the bonnet means they would have no reason to go mooching around the rear axles. I have heard however that it is an expensive fix if not under warranty which your car obviously isn't Maybe an independant garage could do it cheaply? Quote
Leenx Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Thanks Sarnie, not even sure this is the problem - if one at all,I've got to get the tracking sorted out on the car when it's back from repair (second time as original repair work from insurance was shabby) so will get them to take a look. It's a specialist JDM workshop / garage so they should know what they're talking about - just don't wanna be taken to the cleaners!! Quote
MadGrip Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 Thanks for all the info (and the thread hijack) , still hopeing to go see it tomorrow evening. hopefully I'll be a member of the fold soon cheers Phil Quote

MadGrip Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 I'm sure it will Mike, but I'm now thinking of importing my own. Only thing thats worrying me slightly is the tiptronic box. I've had a few jap cars (Impreza ,EVO) but they've always been manual, so I'm going to request a test drive and see how I feel about the tiptronic.. If it all go's well I'll be importing my own very soon thanks to everyone who has given thier input into this thread It's greatly appreciated cheers Phil Quote

Leenx Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I've had a TT, RX8, STI Type UK, Cupra R, Megane 225, and although not originally what I was looking for I ended up with a triptronic Zed and for me it's by far the best drive, I don't even miss the changing of gears as you have the straight upward tiptronic which feels almost the same. Also because i travel a long way to work and get stuck on the notorious M25 it's a breeze driving it! Also it's potently quick off the lights as there's no clutch work involved! Each to their own but it's a great drive! Hope you enjoy your test drive like I did! Nick Quote

Nick Ditto to all the above, except I've never been near the M25 in the Z - the M8 is just about as bad at times, though, and the tiptronic allows you to relax as you crawl along. Quote
