Engine management light is ON..need HELP

I wonder if you guys will be able to help me. The engine management light is on..what does that mean? :scare: The local garage in chesterfield has tried to reset the ECU 3 times but the lights are still coming on. Wonder if it's the faulty sensors. They have check the battery terminals and there is no loose connections. Would be really grateful if you guys can shed some light on this.

Have they just tried to fix the problem or just get rid of the lights?

 

Codes are needed to determine

 

Did they check oil etc, was it a nissan garage or just a normal one? Do you mean fuel pressure temp? Or do you mean all the lights are on?

 

Made any change to the car?

Hi 3FIDDYZ..i have a feeling they were just trying to get rid of the lights. All the oil are topped up. It's not a nissan garage..it's a local garage in chesterfield that "specialise" in engine. Had a JDM engine fitted to my car as it was a flood damaged cat C UK car. They say the engine start and run fine but these lights are on. According to them, the engine management light and the fuel pressure temp light are on. The rest are fine as far as i know. :blush:

So the lights are recent then? I take it you had a new ECU when you got the import engine fitted or are you just using the UK one? Was it a full loom change? And did they do the work?

Hmmm not 100% so that will be an answer for those that know a hell of a lot more than me like Alex on that one... It does sound similer to an issue someone had sometime ago when they put UTEC piggy back in an Import car when the UTEC was for a US / UK model... But again, not my bag so will be looking at input by others to learn a few more things!

Hmmm also just been reminded of when martinmac put the nismo ECU in his UK car and his car spat the preverbial dummy too... could be that you need to give one a go.. I think Ians16 had a spare Jap one, maybe you could borrow one for a trial?

As long as the UK O2 sensors fitted to the JDM motor and maybe the water temp/oil temp sensors are also swapped over I cant see a problem running a UK ECU on a JDM motor.

 

The UK motor will use wide band O2 sensors where are the jap spec cars only use narrow band sensors, both o2 sensors do have diff plugs thou I think.

 

Maybe better to take it to a Nissan dealer and get the fault codes read and then post them up on here.

 

Never heard of a fuel pressure temp light thou!

Contacted the garage again. They said the engine management light is on and the ECU reader says fault with air fuel ratio? Not fuel pressure temperature ..sorry I am not a 350z tech.

sounds likes O2 sensor problem , you need to find out of the correct O2 sensor are fitted to the car.

Can you get the code of them... should be a 4 digit number....

Will try to do that on Monday..they are closed for the weekend. I am going to tell them what Mark has said about the oxygen sensor. I am beginning to think that these people are not as well versed in engine as they claim they are. :angry:
