MarkZZZ Posted July 15, 2009 Share Posted July 15, 2009 Hi All, Do any of you guys and girls know if there was a production problem at anytime with the manufacturing process of the GT4 wheels? 3 out of the 4 wheels on my newly aquired GT4 have deteriorated very badly and almost all of the paint has come off but the other is fine! Do Nissan do a refurb service where you can use your old ones as part exchange? I'm going to have all 4 done but don't know who to take them to. Any ideas for the Reading area please? I know Chips Away do a mobile service but are they any good at total refurbs rather than just repairs/touch ups? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As for getting them done, I personally would avoid Chipsaway - they are not specialist alloy finishers. My advice would be here - www.wheelrefurbishing.com - awesome work and very good prices. WoREoD Posted July 15, 2009 Share Posted July 15, 2009 If the paint is coming off I would guess they have already been repainted. As far as I know there hasn't been any warranty issues on these particular wheels (unlike the Rays). I've had mine repainted several times but once that is done the finish doesn't seem to last very long and its very, very difficult to get close to the original colour finish. My last paint job was with a wheel fixer in Witney (I'm NW of Reading towards Wallingford). A full refurb might need a specialist such as wheelrefinishing, but be careful - they must not be baked. Forgive my ignorance but why can't they be baked? I think I'll have them all done because of the difficulty of matching the exact finish. You need to slow bake it at a low temp or something I believe.... If you chuck it in a hot paint / powder baking oven then you can run into trouble! Voodoo Posted December 3, 2009 Share Posted December 3, 2009 I had mine refurb'd in Ruislip which I'd recommend - http://www.littleknocks.co.uk - They were up front, saying that the GT4 wheels had a black undercoat and needed more time to get right than regular alloys and showed me the differences between the 2. All in all, it was £345 inc. VAT and 3 days off the road. I ended up booking it in at v.short notice and it was 5 days off the road and great service all the way. 1 of the owners had a new GT-R out front and 1 of the mechanics has a Fairlady, so they are used to seeing cars like the 350z.
