There are speed measuring systems out there that can work in the dark, SPECS for example although this is of the 'fixed' type.

 

There is also a system called MAROM, which is a portable/mobile sytem that uses infra-red. It's been trialed in the UK, but as far as I'm aware is not yet type-approved.

 

What you probalby saw was an ANPR van. You'll know for certain it wasn't a speed-camera van, if you don't get a brown envelope through the door in the next couple of weeks.

i saw no van, at the indicated speed I was more concerned on the road than the bridge
