How do i remove the towing eye cover?

Erm... sounds a stupid question, but i cant get it off...!

Im talking about the cover in the front grill.... i pull the bottom part of it and it pivots upwards, but there are some tabs on the back of it which stop it going any further.

The threaded hole is about 3/4 inch higher up, so i cant get to it...

I've got a track day next week, and need my towing eye in whilst on track....

See pics...

This is from the US service manual so hope it helps Chris.

From the diagram on there it looks like once the cover has been flipped it should pull out.

Again, this is US. It says that the license plate should be removed if so equipped. I assume you will be doing this anyway.

Hey Martin,

Did you mean to put a link up?

I've searched through my service manual, not sure if its the US one - but it got no matches for 'TOW' or other variations... what did you search on??

How funny i just found that cover lying in my glovebox today and wandered "what the Hell is this thing?" I was going to throw it out. I was also complaining about my tow eye being exposed at the front. Mystery solved. Woop!

I should also check your towing eye actually screws into the thread , as on mine the thread in the car was totally different to the eye..a few more members have come across this problem..I had to tap the thread to the correct pitch for the eye on mine ;)
