Changing Rear Bulbs

Recommended Posts

I'm obviously not cut out for this.

I set out today to

1) Change my 04 Stop/Tail for a T20 LED

2) Change the Indicators for the SIlvatec Chrome indicators that a lot of you use

Rear lights off - no problem - even in the teeming rain. :yuck:

I followed the instructions in the guide section on here to find that there is no way I could get my arm far enough down to change the Indicators.

And I can't work out how to get the Stop/Tail light out of the housing for fear of breaking something. :scare: Any ideas anyone?

-------------------------------

??? what rear lights have you taken off ? the stop/tail lights are the rear lights you take off and reach down through the hole to access the indicators

Brake lights removed, reach down and turn the bulb, its a bit tight but i did mine that way, use wife/girlfriend/mums arms if they are thinner

I think my arm would end up staying there if I pushed hard enough to reach it.

:surrender:

What about removing the brakelight? is it just a very firm twist? or a bit of leverage somewhere?

I'm trying to change both Stop/Tail - for an LED equivalent I got from OZ.

(Trying to work out how to remove the light grey 'plug' from the back of the light unit

AND

Swap the indicators out too

just pull mate, iirc you stand at the side of the quarter panel and pull towards you, there are lugs on the opposite side to the 3 bolts you have undone, theres a gasket on them that sticks a bit

the plug on the light connector has a lug you have to push in to remove it, push that in with a screwdriver and pull the connector

AHAH!!! :) will give it a go next break in the downpour!!

So you have to take the rear clusters out to change the indicators.

cluster removal only a 2 minute job. But I now need to find someone who can squeeze their hand into a tiny gap underneath the clusters

Yup. Its easy though, only 3 bolts on each side along the top of the light

To remove the connectors turn them 1/4-1/2 turn and it should just come out.

Assuming you used my guide, I cant see how you can get it wrong :surrender:

All good then :teeth:

Yes they are a sod at first if they've never been touched since the car was built. Just need to persude it a bit. On an old car I had used a screwdriver on one of the tabs and walloped it. Got that one out
