rickya Posted September 24, 2008 Share Posted September 24, 2008 Some pics of mainly Evos/Skylines & Scoobies from my trackday a few weeks ago at the Silverstone South Circuit. Organised by MLR, GTR owners; SIDC with approx 70 cars attending for a full day, with a couple of E46 M3's, 1 E30 M3, & couple of GT3 RS's, track specials & an F430 also thrown in for an interesting mix! I have done a full write up about the day & thoughts on my Spec C's first track outing, but wont bore you lot with non Zed ramblings by myself! To cut a long story short: excellent day; no mishaps; car performed amazingly well considering most cars were running minimum 380 bhp & many at 600 bhp plus! Im moderately running 330bhp, but the weight advantage & track based design of car etc helped me keep in touch with most cars upto the 400 bhp 'plus-ish' mark. Apart from the big bhp cars most were evenly matched, who was quicker was more about driver & suspension/brakes than power. Though on the hangar straight the big cars such as the Skylines & Porsches would take a few cars lengths, but by the next two corners it was all square again. (though the GT3 Rs was awesome everywhere!) So much fun Iv just bought some track day wheels with another set of (goldust/holygrail!) Bridgestone RE070's in 235 size! Also booked Brands hatch for November, just need a set of nice KW or Tein coilovers now ( & another credit card), me thinks!!! There is an obvious line, just watch a couple of vids and you will get the idea. Let the quick ones thru as not that wide on the line in the corners. 2 straights where you will get past others easily. The other 2 danger area are as in druids (do not blast the pedal until you know you are staying on the track) and the exit of graham hill bend (this is where most BTCC accidents happen as good set up for overtaking) truck crash @ Paddock is okay, its just a long drop (TV does not do it justice) It is also off camber. Main thing is going off, (like all tracks) try opposite lock, trying to get round with even more steering once its gone is not going to happen (past slip angle). What I have always been told is, you want to crash head on as car not strongest at the sides and not many will roll when going head on. For a race the start line is up hill but you are doing track day so will not notice it. The one thing to remember on all track days is to start off slow and build up. It is only going to go wrong when you stretch yourself to quickly. Most track people have an off once in say once in 20-100. So do not worry to much, its mainly people with something to prove that it goes bad. Have fun and you will be okay, try to race and you will not. Last bit of advice. If you are going to do a few more, do a driver training day not based on how to drive fast but one where you get to push it safely over the line and then see what you need to do when it goes. Once you have those skills its good to do "how to drive quickly" training. Opposite lock sounds easy but when you are heading into a wall or gravel at 50-100 then your survival instincts do weird things, sometime its wrong to keep power on and sometime its right, training get this to be second nature.
