Passenger door handle locked from outside but can get in from the inside

Hey guys,

 

The passenger door hasn’t open from the outside since I bought the car back in Feb. I can open the door from the inside but it’s a massive pain. I’ve removed both door handles today for painting and I’ve discovered I can open the passenger door using the rod inside the door but I can’t open the door using the handle.

 

Can’t think what would be causing this issue so here I am asking for suggestions!

It sounds like the linkage between the exterior door handle and the latch mechanism might be disconnected or broken. Since you can open the door using the rod inside, the latch itself is functional. Check if the rod connecting the exterior handle to the latch is properly attached and not bent or damaged; if it’s loose or misaligned, securing or replacing it should resolve the issue.
