Boot lid not opening !!

Hi all .Had a problem opening my boot lid on the first press of the release button. The boot lid does not clear the safety catch, you have to press it again and assist it a bit and it clears. Thought it was the struts so i replaced them but just the same. Any thoughts?

Can also try removing the boot weight and / or the rear wiper + motor.

How far did you move the latch? When I moved the latch all the way down my boot almost flew open by itself...

hi , I undid the bolt and tapped the catch down as far as it could go, then tightened up. the lid still only opens that one position.

it seems that there isn't enough power in the spring to lift it

I guess the only thing left to do is mod / change the springs.

 

You can try the "penny mod" but I found it damages the rubber casing.

 

Best bet would be replacing them, Torqen sell them or try PM Alex.

instead of the penny mod you can buy these little rubber things from halfords which do not damage anything .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4fkqew1828 thats the link for the instructions it fixed mine so it should fix yours too .

^Aye, tap washers.

 

"Penny mod" is just the name, but it's recommended to use these instead. However, I still found they places extra stress inside and makes the little rubber nipple tips fall off.

I added rubber washers to mine. Works a treat now.
