addisj Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Hi all, I don't know anything about starter motors, but recently the 2005 DE seems to be struggling slightly when starting her. I turn the key, there is a usual starter motor noise, then a pause and then it starts. Always starts OK, its just the pause and its getting longer. Feels like its struggling. Any advice? Thanks. addisj Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 How olds the battery? It was the one I got with the car so at least 5 years old. Its showing as full charge on the dial in the car. Quote
ZEUS Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I'd still get the battery tested to see how healthy it is and also to rule it out as the problem. Quote
brillomaster Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) replace the battery. its old, winter is coming, for the sake of £70 you really should. its almost certainly the battery. Edited November 11, 2016 by brillomaster Quote
addisj Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 Ok will get a new battery cheers. Will rule it out I guess. Quote
KyleR Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Get it tested rather than possibly wasting £70-£100, no point if it's in good condition and will last a few more years yet. 1 Quote

May order a battery tester. It will come in handy with my old focus daily commuter too. I always thought the dash battery gauge was enough to go by until now. Quote
ZEUS Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Just pop to a garage and get it tested. I think even Halfords do a free battery health check. Quote

The problem is when the battery is on it's last legs it can play silly buggers with the electrical system and the gauge being electrical, it may be susceptible too. Quote
