Oil Velocity

Hi Guys,

 

i believe the velocity of oil to use on a standard DE engine is 5W/30? do people use fully synth or part synth?

 

just need to get some for a top up! as I've just had a rebuild

The faster you drive, the higher the velocity....

 

Most on here use fully synth and 5-30 is fine.

Check with the person who did the engine rebuild for you what oil they used?

 

You should be using Running In Oil or mineral based oil for the first 500-1000 mile after a rebuild to ensure bedding in of piston rings etc. Then flush and use 5w-30 fully synthetic as recommended.

I've now done 1100 miles with the new big bearings in it (was just a bottom end rebuild - completed by the garage i brought it from). I'm doing a long trip to Portsmouth from Cambridge at the weekend, its used a little oil since the rebuild (probably expected). I'm just looking to top it up with some normal oil and i'll dump the old stuff when i get back and refill completely with 5W/30!
