Oil and filter done over the weekend! Now got rid of the nasty mineral oil since my car had new bottom end bearings. Now running on Castrol Magnatec 5W/30 Fully Synth! - whilst i was at it i stripped my brakes down and stopped them from giving lorries squealing competitions! I then noticed i have a rear wheel bearing gone! Bummer! so shes booked in for Tuesday night and is being looked at Wednesday! Productive weekend! - What did everyone else get up to?

Hi Guys, Does anyone know how much oil i need to buy to do a change (with a filter) i normally have the oil sitting just below the top mark? Going for a 5W/30 Fully Synthetic oil. Next question... anyone know where i can buy a bundle? (Oil & filter) at a decent price and grab it before the weekend? Thanks in advance (y)

Thanks mate, I've now done 1100 miles with the new big bearings in it (was just a bottom end rebuild - completed by the garage i brought it from). I'm doing a long trip to Portsmouth from Cambridge at the weekend, its used a little oil since the rebuild (probably expected). I'm just looking to top it up with some normal oil and i'll dump the old stuff when i get back and refill completely with 5W/30!

Hi Guys, i believe the velocity of oil to use on a standard DE engine is 5W/30? do people use fully synth or part synth? just need to get some for a top up! as I've just had a rebuild Thanks in advance, Jack

Was it blue smoke though? mine smells but it smells of fuel... which is just rich running? well, I've done 900 miles since i had the bottom end done, so it may have used some due to that? I'm going to do another 100 miles to get it to a round 1000 miles and then dump the oil and change for fresh! (5W 30 isn't it?) fully synthetic or part? So, this will just progressively get worse will it? how much has it set you back to have a valve seals sorted?

Oh dear! mines just had a bottom end rebuild! when you say fully rebuilt... is it being rebuilt to standard? or forged for turbo or anything? It is really confusing me, because if it was valve seals or piston rings id look like the Flying Scotsman coming down the road? I have no idea where it is going?! glad im not the only person that has this problem though! Maybe the cats will have to go on! because it doesn't show an oil loss with the cats on?! thoughts?

Hi Guys, Anyone had any problems with their PVC valve and oil consumption on a DE (2005)? I have recently fitted Decats, my car seems to be using oil now? i cant see it being the decats themselves? i have the normal white smoke coming from exhaust (not in huge amounts) - oil burning would be blueish anyhow? I'm thinking i may have a PVc valve problem? anyone come across this? its used a fair bit I've gauged about 1L over (1000 miles) decats have only covered about 300 miles!? but only seemed to be using oil since after they were fitted.... so in he-insight about 1L over 300 miles?!? which is heart attack material? but as i say, i have no pools of oil on driveway or no horrific black smoke!? so it can be a major internal problem? I've de-catted mine this weekend and got a light! So i ordered some spacers from ebay last night... it think they are all the same as long as they are the right size thread wise? Sounds crazy though!!
