LDUNKZ18 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 being a spray painter i am starting to do homers again this summer i have a 270litre air compressor, belt driven 3hp motor. i have the chance to buy a very cheap 300 litre air tank and my plan is to connect this with my compressor i already have. in theory this should give me 300 plus 270 litres of air meaning a longer time spraying and less time waiting for the pressure to build up,. however i'm reading all sorts of stuff on the internet about this causing issues and not working as you'd think.. are there any air compressor mechanics on here that can shed some light on this issue or anyone whos done this in the past? cheers! Ricey Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 No expert but our compressor is a fair beast (similar to the one you have) and we have issues occasionally depending on what we are doing because the CFM isn't great. Tricky-Ricky Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Basically adding the extras tank will give you more spraying time before the pressure reaches a point where you start to notice the pressure drop at the gun, but obviously the two tanks will take considerable more time to fill, and the compressor will struggle to keep the tanks filled once your using the air, but it should work fine, I have used my little 50lt 1hp compressor set up to spray a mates truck cab, and although it drops quickly because the tank is small it fills quickly, so I think you may well get away with spraying most or even a complete car before the pressure gets too low Quote

Tricky-Ricky Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) 250L/min = 8.82867 CFM, but that's at 8bar so your only likely to be using 20-30psi at an absolute max with a low pressure gun, using 9.2CFM you will have lag, but not much so you should be Ok.
