I agree that certain cars are likely to be bought by a certain 'driving' demographic. I reckon Audi's and BM's are bought by the following people ;
1. People who buy into the 'German' quality thing. It's a fair point, they do tend to feel higher quality - the door close and dash tap test doesn't lie. I wouldn't agree that reliability follows suit though, they have their fair share of shortfalls here.
2. People who want a decent drive (usually applies to BMW's or more capable Audi 'S' models (not S-Line) and 'RS' cars. These people use tailgaiting and light flashing as a last resort and you probably deserve it if you're on the receiving end.
3. Twunts who fell the need to portray an image of success and confidence and get an S Line on the company car scheme. These are likely to be the ones who appear on your ass from nowhere instantly flashing you out of the way. In fact they're probably late for their 'enlargement' appointment
Interesting that Merc drivers rarely display these tendencies, in my opinion?

I personally think Nissans are pap anyway. Its like if I was cool id be in a bmw or merc but no i bought a tarted up Datsun because it has a fat arse and halfords alloys. Horrible things IMO.
Drivers make for idiotic driving, not the cars. I like Audi styling and especially the interiors, I just wish they drove as well as they looked.
+1, Audi have subtle, tasteful style cracked - both inside and outside.

Yes but they are horrible to drive understeery bo where near bmw or merc driving expeeience. Interiors don't really bother me tbh. Aslong as seats are comfortable it's all good.

I'm thinking seriously about an RS4, apparently they oversteer nicely. You just have to man up and swallow the faults (dampers, coking etc), even if it grates a bit on a car so expensive.
It's a close call between this and the E60 M5, actually the M5 is probably better value for money with a decent warranty - it's unbelievable that some are knocking on the door of £12K nowadays.
Anyway, that's all off topic really as they're out of the OP's price range. For small car bang per buck the VX220 is a good call. For an awesome drive a MK1/2 Elise is also a safe bet. Personally, for £10K a late E39 M5 is what I'd go for.

I've just got the Nokia Lumia 920 phone, partly for the outsrtanding camera. It's the best I've used on a 'phone by far.

I'd cherish a mint CS where as a 335i is essentially just a rep mobile with some serious lump up front.
This is part of the attraction for me to be honest S1, a bit of a sleeper......

It's a smoother, better drive. If you like the tin-ey noise the E46 makes then that's the only plus side.
a few of my friends have tuned their 335s with very little money. New turbos, meth, etc... and the cars are very quick. There are so many options for that motor. Amazing value and can be driven every day.
Interesting. The 335i certainly seems a force to be reckoned with.....

I'm looking at 335i's at the moment too, I need a family car and an estate to boot (Boom Boom!). Shame they didn't do an M3 Touring
The 335i engine is supposed to be immense, I'm looking forward to a test drive.
The general concensus is that it was detuned to distance it from the M3 - with a few suspension mods and a remap the real world pace is close to a M3, an aftermarket LSD is desirable though.
There are a few potential engine problems though, which are probably rarer than the interweb makes out but I reckon I'll get a warranty. It should cost around £40-50 a month.
After saying all that, if it's for a toy I'd get the M3 anyday

Not a fan to be honest, a bit too westside for me. How's about a VXR8? Still an 'in-yer-face' kinda car, but a tad more subtle. You'd probably need to get a VXR fleece and baseball cap to go with it though

I'd love to play the £300 car game- find the best car you can for under 300 quid, kick it's head in for a year then start again from scratch
It's good fun, I do it between cars nowadays. Cash in the bank for the next purchase and something different to tidy up and hack around in for a few months.
The last one was a '98 Saab 900 Turbo, bought for £510 off the 'Bay and sold for £650 a year later having spent nothing but fuel money

Another bump for these RE050 tyres, as you can see they're in good nick with plenty of life left in them - no puncture repairs.

Volkswagen Golf is a winner!
....load of niggly common problems like ..... the clutch pedal breaking in half.
I just hate those 'niggling' problems!
Servicing on a golf is well easy. A full service (pollen, air, oil & fuel filters + oil) came in at 60quid for parts and I could do it in exactly 16minutes.
Lovely cars to drive however, and 2nd to my beemer it was the nicest car ive owned to drive. Very relaxing and comfortable. But, running costs compared to our 307 were a lot higher.
We had one too - the GT TDi 150 and it was a great car, a proper torque monster. I found the running costs ok, but I did spend the whole ownership period convinced that it was about to eat it's camshafts

If this isn't an easy fix I might get my other half to take it back to mobile - it's cheap enough at £30 for the dongle including a gig a month for 3 months but if I can only connec tthe PC I'd rather have mifi and buy a cheapie pc wireless adapter off the 'Bay.
Le tme know if there's a fix for the dongle though
Mifi and cheap Wifi dongle would be the best option TBH. Could possibly even get you a wifi dongle from someone close on the forum. I have an old USB one but its a bit flakey now, if that were in better nick I'd have given it to you.
Thanks again Chris, I just looked at the pointers again and it'll cost about £60 for the pointer and 30 days webbage. We only have about two weeks to wait for the BT line to be sorted so I'll persevere with the dongle for now - let me know if you have any brainwaves
