  1. Hi all, I’ve been playing with the power and torque curves provided by Nissan. The results are attached. It’s a bit rough and ready, but someone may be interested. I’m not an engineer, so this will probably be a silly question. The torque curve drops off above 4800 rpm and the power curve drops off above 6300 rpm. The red line is at 6600 rpm. I was wondering if it’s better to shift up at a slightly lower rpm, say 6200, to make use of the higher portion of the torque curve, or to change up at the red line to make better use of the power curve?
  2. Hi all, Just a question about adjusting the headlights. Do I have to stick a plastic beam bender to the lights when I drive to France, or is there a clever way of doing it?
  3. Thanks for all the friendly messages. I feel very welcomed. I think I will enjoy this forum, and I know I’ll enjoy my Zed. Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the information. Very helpful and reassuring. I’ve had no reoccurrence since. I will take the advice and ensure that the throttle is appropriately exercised in future
  5. Thanks for the input. No modifications. The mechanic said it may have been triggered by the car being low on fuel at some time. Not quite sure why that would be.
  6. I encountered with my 350Z this morning. I was in north London and I had just pulled away from traffic lights when I lost all power. Various warning lights came on, so I pulled over. I switched off the engine and restarted. It seemed fine, but the engine warning light was on. I happened to be close to a Nissan garage (the one near the A1/North Circular), so I pulled in and they ran a diagnostic on it. It seems there was a problem with the throttle potentiometer sensor. The mechanic reset the engine management system and said that it may solve the problem, or it may not. Anyone had this sort of experience?
  7. Got a couple of newbe questions. Firstly changing gear. I've noticed that when I hit the clutch, the revs go up a bit. Even if my foot is well off the gas when I hit the clutch, the revs blip up by about 500 rpm. Is this normal? Secondly, does anyone have suggestions of ways I can put may mark on it. Any minor styling mods that would just make it look that little bit different (without going over the top)?
  8. Oh yes. Forgot about pics. Not had a chance to take any decent ones yet. Only had it two days. But this gives you the idea.
  9. Hi all. Just got myself a 4 year old 350Z, so I thought I’d join the owners club. It’s a 04 plate with GT pack in silver. Rear parking sensors, but bog standard apart from that. Very nice to drive, but will probably take a bit of time to get used to. I moved up from a Honda Prelude vti – a very different car. There is not a lot of torque in the prelude so you have to spin the engine to get the best out of it. The low down torque of the 350Z is a pleasant change. I’m not quite sure how to get the best out of it yet (what do people normally set their rev light to – I looked at the power/torque curves and thought 6000 would be a good place to start?). Also it’s the first rear wheel drive car I have owned – I’m being very careful at the moment, but even so there have been two occasions when I‘ve been glad of the traction control. I’m looking forward to discussing the attributes of the 350Z and getting some good tips. I’m sure there is plenty of wisdom in the forums.
