  1. Here we go, some pics.

As you can see its not a showcar standard but its perfectly functional.

In case you wondered, the wavy line yu can see in the filter in one shot isn't damage, it's how it came out the box, a cosmetic manufacturers kink in the mesh and if you are that bothered about it rotate the filter so it points downwards.

Prepare for a new world of sound and a snappy throttle! :teeth:

Incidentally, if you don't want it that is fine as someone else has already put in a request - but you get first dibs.

  2. I've got a popcharger I was going to put up here at the weekend.

It's been on for 40K so needs a re-oil. It looks fine but after those miles its the best thing to do . That will cost about £10 for a re-oil kit.

Apart from that and a few age spots its bob-on so £60 delivered seems suitable?

I can post some pics up at the weekend if you like.

  3. I've taken off my Popcharger and put the standard filter box back on. At the moment its the old (grubby) paper filter but I'll put a K&N panel filter in as I prefer not to have to fiddle with it every service - and as I have a cold air intake it may resist the wet mud that gets in a bit better.

Instantly the the car is more mellow sounding, and as i do a lot of motorway miles this is mainly what I'm after.

I'm not sure what to expect. I think the engine will be a bit less revvy, particularly at higher revs as its a bit more restrictive than the Popcharger but until I have a blast when the K&N arrives and get used to it I don't know if I will notice much.

Anyone done this reversion before that can comment?

I also have an up-rev tune so will i notice much difference or is it time for a re-tune?

  4. Just ordered a front bearing, am I right in thinking if I go round a left hand corner so load the right hand side of the car and the noise stops its definitely the left hand side?

Think that's right, yes. My nearside front got extremely load and rumbling and all wheel wiggling didn't show any movement. It was only when the wheel was turned it rumbled. Was pretty bad in the end as the garage kept saying it was ok for quite a while. Ruined a tyre and the alignment for a while until it ws all fixed.

Even a tiny bit of movement means the bearing is on its way out (or your wheel is loose :teeth: )

  5. 04 with just under 175K on the clock

It is all about how it has been looked after.

    That's incredible!!

Not really. My v6 Alfa did 250K and my 04 GT is on 132K at the moment.

V6 engines live for ever if you look after them and spend your time cruising up and down motorways.

Oh, and you have looked at the odometer in most taxis? Its a complete myth that engines have to be bought with low mileage, but that worry over mileage makes it better for us buyers who pick up a bargain car :)

  6. Now I will have wild guess here but a water hose leading to a throttle body usually forms part of a system to warm the throttle and prevent icing. This is fine but warming the throttle is not conducive to maximum power. Its possible that the previous owner has removed the pipe to gain that extra 1hp. Unless the weather goes completely arctic it won't cause any harm.

Its a 100% guess based on engines in general rather than the Z

  7. 122K on mine his week.

No problems at all apart from the last MOT when some brake pipes were getting rusty where the plastic covering finished, in the wheel arches. Normal enough for any car that's 8 years old.

I tend to buy cars and hang on to the bitter end with them, so fully expect to go way over 200K in this baby.

  8. Have the oils been changed for genuine Nissan oils?

My gearbox was a pig when I changed oils (to very good quality ones), with 2nd very hard to engage when changing down and all sorts of whiles and whistles in all gears, but as I'd had the clutch and fly done at the same time I put it down to that and to general wear.

Changing the oils again and adding molyslip after advice from the Forum was the best thing I ever did. The gearbox is as smooth as butter (ish) compared to what it was and is much quieter.

If you don't have genuine Nissan fluid in, :pmzmanalex: for an oil change pack.

  9. We're all missing Jan 12 as it starts Feb to Jan 13

Why is that then? I must have missed the bit that said it started in Feb  I've got nothing to look at for a month!

Not that I'm complaining as its a top job and very nicely done, I'm very happy with it :teeth: just a bit confused as it's here in plenty of time for Jan. Did you think you weren't going to make it in time based on the horrific weather at this time last year?

  10. Young Paddy bought a donkey from a farmer for £100. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.

The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have some bad news. The donkey's died.'

Paddy replied, 'Well then just give me my money back.'

The farmer said, 'Can't do that. I've already spent it.'

Paddy said, 'OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.'

The farmer asked, 'What are you going to do with him?'

Paddy said, 'I'm going to raffle him off.'

The farmer said, 'You can't raffle a dead donkey!'

Paddy said, 'Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead.'

A month later, the farmer met up with Paddy and asked, ' What happened with that dead donkey?'

Paddy said, 'I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at £2 each and made a profit of £898'

The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?'

Paddy said, 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him his £2 back.'

Paddy now works for Northern Rock.

  11. I ran non-Nissan fluids in by gearbox for a while and I really don't recommend it (especially Halfrauds stuff).

Mine was Millers, a good brand and technically superior to the Nissan stock oil, but I had whines, grumbles and trouble with changing down into 2nd or 1st.

Once I got Nissan stuff back in the gearbox is smooth and quiet (well, as quiet as the Z box gets)

  13. I am a happy bunny now :teeth:

Last year was rubbish in the Z whenever it got a little frosty, and even one flake of snow was enough to get me stationary.

Ok so I don't mind the excuse to work from home when I can but sometimes you have to drive and it was lethal. So this year, as my tyres are getting very close to needing to be changed I thought I would go for some winter tyres.

I have no storage space so don't have the luxury of getting a new set of wheels so the tyres had to fit standard GT rays. What a PITA ! Finding any type of tyre that is made in both the front and rear standard sizes is a nightmare. Once you do find them, the chance of finding anyone with them in stock and a decent price is also near impossible. Finally I decided on the Vredestein (not that I was spoiled for choice). One seller even seemed happy to sell one type of Continental for the front and another for the rear. That didn't seem like a good idea.

Anyway, cutting a dull story short, I decided to buy from abroad which is something I've never done before and what do you know, not only cheaper but everyone has stock - Hurray :yahoo:

    2 Vredestein 225/45 R18 95V Wintrac Xtreme XL FSL 177,00 € 354,00 €

    Status der Verfügbarkeit: Sofort versandfertig

    2 Vredestein 245/45 R18 100V Wintrac Xtreme XL FSL 211,00 € 422,00 €

    Status der Verfügbarkeit: Sofort versandfertig

    4 Shipping to United Kingdom 4,95 € 19,80 €

    MwSt-Anteil: 127,06 €

    Gesamtsumme (inkl MwSt): 795,80 €

Including bank payment fees, all in £728 the set including vat and shipping, so £70 cheaper and a lot less stressy :) A free tank of petrol (almost  )

Incidentally if you really want to stay UK, MyTyres has the best price at about £180 for the fronts and Tyremen at about £222 for the rears. When I say best I mean they have them in stock, although not for much longer from what they were saying. There are a few others that are way more pricey and a lot of places with no stock (Camskill, come on, you have zero stock, don't you by them in in the summer??).

Roll on some grip in the Winter :drive1
