  1. Ok making some progress - I've been emailing Works Bell in Japan and here is their latest response:

We have two kinds of Paddle Shifters. One is Paddle Shifter NEO which is used for sports steering wheel. The other is Column Shifter which is used for standard/OEM steering wheel. Therefore, I think you are looking for the Colunm Shifter.

Please refer to the picture of Paddle Shifter NEO from this page

    http://worksbell.co.jp/en/products/boss/paddle_neo.htm

Also, please refer to the picture of Column Shifter from this page

    http://worksbell.co.jp/en/products/boss/column_shifter.htm

The price of Paddle Shifter NEO is JPY46,800

The price of Column Shifter is JPY36,800

JPY36,800 is £173 and they have quoted 2,800 shipping to UK which is £13, so just VAT and import duty(?) left to pay which won't be that much. So just a touch over £200 which isn't bad at all. Just not sure how easy / difficult it is to fit.

Think I am going to order one! :teeth:

  2. It took 6 months for my car to get UK plates due to lack of model report. So good advise above, make sure your import car has a model report.

Was that 6 months from when it arrived in the UK? And was that through Bonsai? When I spoke to Gary there having a whinge about how lomng mine was taking he mentioned somebody who had recently put a Type-G through.

  3. What put me off was needing an aftermarket steering wheel... i think the kit is like £350, but then getting a wheel etc etc... i cant be bothered!

Well correct me if I've misunderstood, but from what I can see here there is a version specifically for the OEM wheel and better still it's the cheapest of all the kits:

    http://www.z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?model=350z&cat=interior&prodid=2835

Seems to me it's roughly £200 plus shipping plus fittting (which they say is easy).

    Have I missed something?!

  4. Ok so who is gonna b the first to get them and let the rest of us know what its like?

I really do fancy it actually - just getting a cost for shipping and fitting and I'll keep you all posted.

  5. in 7 months I could probably buy a UK MY07 GT for what I paid for my JDM!

That's exactly how I feel! I have well and truly learnt a lesson from this and I really hope you don't have to go through the same stress that I have!

I would try to put your mind at rest now and find out whether a model report exists for your variant. I'm not sure whether it's a comprehensive list or not but have a look on modelreports.com. I have just done so and they have listed a "Nissan 350Z (2006 >) Auto CBA-Z33". Not sure whether yours is an auto and whether the 2006 > covers 2007... I would ring Steve and ask him - I'm sure he'll check for you.

If there is a model report then you won't be waiting 7 months. A report didn't exist for mine and that's what the delay has been, worsened by the fact that the lab that produces the reports in Southampton was in the process of being moved so instead my car was sent to MIRA in Nuneaton. It seems they couldn't be bothered to do anything with it so it sat there without anything happening for four months, and they still haven't finished.

I really wish you the best of luck - and feel free to PM if you have any Qs. :)

  6. I have been given into trouble for my comment about bonsai cars before so i will have to keep shut!

I'm intrigued too about why the trouble?!

I am in the middle of a horrendous import process with Bonsai at the moment - it really couldn't have been worse - but at the same time I accept that it's not their fault entirely. But still 7 months on and my car is a long way off being ready. :scare::angry:

Just whatever you do make sure there is a model report available.

Oh and I got badly stung but the currency rate shifting dramatically between the time I won an auction and the time I made the payment, so I ended up paying a lot more than I actually bid for.

Again PM if you want any advice!

  7. Or something like this to connect the iPod to the Bose?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/PAC-AAI-NIS2-Aux-Input-fits-iPOD-350Z-Altima-Frontier_W0QQitemZ170221976495QQihZ007QQcategoryZ58350QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Not used one before and no idea whether it will work with JDM but I plan on finding out when mine is FINALLY ready (5 months and counting...)

Don't know why people slate the Bose so much - I thought the one in my UK GT was pretty good especially with the 7 speakers.

    :)

  8. I'm waiting for an MY07 JDM Night Blue Roadster to get through the SVA at the moment and I'm thinking about styling options.

If possible I want to do it as cheaply as possible as the car has already ended up costing more than my budget after I got stung by currency flucatuations!

I was just thinking of a pair of side skirts and then whatever is cheapest and easiest for the front and back, so I guess rear spats and a lip (is that the right word?) on the front bumper.

I was looking at this on ebay which I know is only "Nismo style" but how crap is it really likely to be?

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nissan-350Z-NI-Style-Full-Body-Kit-Nismo-Version-1_W0QQitemZ290212282425QQihZ019QQcategoryZ72207QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

    Anyone got any suggestions?

Is it best to import from the US?

Do you reckon there's any way of getting something painted and fitted for £1k all in or do I stand more chance of getting the government to scrap fuel duty?

    Thanks all.

  9. Shame that matey - dont worry there will be other runs out - why dont you come in whatever car you have now to Wales anyway?

Thanks dude - I actually sold my last Zed in anticipation of this one arriving but hadn't planned on being without a car for this long!

How can there not be a model report?

Well it's a MY07 Tiptronic Roadster, so I guess nobody has imported one yet. Is that what you mean? It didn't occur to me when I bid and the agent failed to warned me that the usual 2 - 3 months would turn into 5 - 6! :scare:

  10. I'll be able to let you know soon - my Night Blue import ragtop is due to be rolling off the ship at Southampton tomorrow so give it a couple of weeks for the SVA and I'll have a whole load of pics up!

    :D

Would love to see this colour at the Wales meet, any chance you could pop up :D

Grrr, still waiting for the feckin SVA to be done so no chance of me making Wales I'm afraid.

Really do wish I'd saved myself a lot of money, stress and hassle and not gone down the route of importing directly. The main problem has been the fact that no model report exists (I didn't know this at the time), so I've just had to sit back and watch the months go by whilst someone half-heartedly goes about getting one produced.

I actually think by the time it's on the road I could have bought a UK one of the same age for less money. :scare:

    Never, ever again. :surrender:

  11. Great, cheers, I knew I had got it into my head from somewhere and that text looks familiar - should have used the search! Not going to start this into one of those "what are the differences" threads but I also read that Xenons were only an option in Japan whereas that extract states they are standard on the base model. I think there's conflicting info everywhere!

Oh well, will find out soon enough. I've been waiting an eternity for my car to be prepared (still not ready) and having got used to all of the nice features that my GT had I'm wondering one by one whether the new one has them!

  12. Can you not use people like MoneyCorp to fix the rates, that way you know what price you will be paying in yen.

Good advice. I'm kicking myself for not having researched this properly before I made my payment. I just had to watch the rates spiral downwards whilst waiting for my funds to transfer from one account to another before I could make the payment.

Even fluctuations on the day meant that the price I calculated at the time of making payment had increased by £300 by the time it was actually processed a few hours later. Total amount ended up being £800 more than it would have been on the day before, but I guess you win some and lose some.

  13. What spec is it? Can't see any Brembo's

Yeah it's shame about that - it's a Version T. Without opening this into a new thread, I think the only difference between T and ST is the Brembos and 18" alloys (which this has anyway) right?

Would much rather have an ST and could have held out for one but I think the unusual paint and leather adds enough to swing it for me.

Calipers look weird. Is there something over them?

Yeah they look horrible to be honest. Wonder whether they would look better painted, but that might be best left for chavved up Corsas...

  14. Would love to see this colour at the Wales meet, any chance you could pop up :D

Yeah I reckon I can make that!

Here she is in Japan - not great photos:

    http://89.200.137.251/350/

Without stating the obvious I think the colour looks very different depending on the light - sometimes deep metallic blue, sometimes almost black.

Will have some better photos soon :teeth:

  15. Just about to put my zed up for sale as my import will be ready soon and having never sold a car privately before I just wanted to get the panel's advice on a few things!

It's a UK 53 reg GT, Sunset / Alezan leather, genuine sat nav, 38k, totally standard. FNSH, MOT done today, 8 months tax and also has extended warranty until May 08. I'd say the condition is about as good as it gets for its age.

Parkers reckons £14,650 and What Car say £15,835.

    1) Quite a difference between those prices - which is likely to be most realistic?

    2) How much will the built-in sat nav, warranty and tax add on?

    3) Assuming buyers will always want to haggle, do you therefore add a bit on to compensate for this so that the price your sell for is in fact the price you wanted to get, or do you just accept that you won't get the price you're after?

    4) How realistic is it to expect potential buyers to be insured to test drive the car?

    Thanks in advance!
