  1. I'm getting my UK 53 reg coupe ready for sale as I'm importing an MY07 roadster from Japan and she's due to be ready in about a month's time.

Current mileage is 38,500 and due to an oversight on my part and also a mis-understanding it's not had the 36,000 mile P3 service. Looking back over the history it doesn't look like it's ever had a new clutch either, so presumably it's still on the original? Is it a fair assumption that it's probably in need of one and will likely come up in the service?

If this is the case and assuming it's likely to cost in the region of £1,500+ then is it really worth my while spending all that money just to sell? I know this question is sometimes asked and people recommend doing so, but does it really make financial sense to do that?

I'm certainly not trying to screw anyone over, but it did have a P1 recently so how likely is it that buyers will question the service history?

Or am I better off trying to sell it to an independent dealer?

    Thanks in advance :D

  2. Sorry if this is answered elsewhere, but what happens if a model report doesn't yet exist for the car you're importing?

It's an 07 tiptronic Roadster, so does this mean that if one of these cars hasn't been reported before, a model report won't exist? And does that mean I have to go about getting one produced?

I'm importing through a UK agent (Bonsai) so not sure whether this becomes my responsibility to find one or theirs. I have had a quick look on modelreports.com and modelreportsdirect.com and neither have one.

    Cheers all.

  3. Do you mean a warning light when the rpm reaches the gear limit? I don't think it has that - I'm a bit of a sunday driver so never really use the tiptronic feature. The only display i'm aware of is the figure under the rev counter telling you which gear you're in (when in auto mode it will always read 'D' of course).

Well on the UK manuals you can set number of revs at which a red light will begin to flash below the rev counter telling you to change gear - I guess so you can still concentrate on the road and see it flashing in your peripheral vision.

No great hardship without it I guess!

  4. Well that makes me feel better, and I should just stop worrying I think.

Max agreed bid was £18,600 but having been stung by the change in exchange rate that will be over £19k now. Yen price was 2,995,000 and at the slightly worse rate of 217 to the pound so still a bit concerned that the total is going to be a fair bit above the agreed maximum, but I'll trust Bonsai for now.

Cheers dude, I'll get some pics up when she arrives :D

p.s. that equivalent UK car for which the link didn't work was £29,850.

To an importing expert such as yourself (:D), what price do you think is reasonable, both in terms of the total cost to import it and then how much it might be worth once it's in the UK?

  6. I'm surprised that you don't have a fixed price you are paying to be honest. When I had my car imported we started at the final price I was preparted to pay and worked backwards from that - therefore the importer new exactly how much he had to bid with at auction after deducting all the costs.

That's exactly the way it's supposed to work with Bonsai but for some reason my own calculations are coming out higher and I'm waiting for their response as to why. I'm just hoping I've got something wrong, and if I haven't I'm not really sure where I stand as the price won't be quite as good as it was.

The overall final bid price should be accurate as the Yen does not fluctuate so much in the space of 24 hours. Currently though, importing from Japan is costing a lot more as we're suffering from the weak pound - its 216 Yen to the pound today, and when I last imported it was 231. That in itself can make a big difference to the total cost.

I actually did get stung by that as well. The exchange rate dropped sharply overnight between me checking it and making the transfer, and as a result I've just got to accept the additional £600 for nothing.

Shame - the yen was around the 250 mark in July!

I really hope this doesn't turn into a horror story. :scare:

  7. Thanks JDM, I'll lower my expectations in that case!

Have you found their prices to be accurate or have they mysteriously crept up?

I have done all my sums and it looks like the final on the road price is about £2k higher than my bid price and I'm still waiting for them to comment on it.

Am I right in thinking that import duty is calculated as 10% of the purchase price PLUS shipping, and then VAT is 17.5% of the purchase price, shipping and the import duty? If so then I'm going to be paying a lot more than planned... :scare:

  8. I'm in the process of importing with Bonsaicars at the moment having won an auction. It's all still at the early stages and the car is still in Japan but I've made the main chunk of the payment.

This is a pretty useful guide which outlines the costs:

    http://www.epoi.com/faq.html

Add on to that the Bonsaicars fee of £695 + VAT and that's pretty much everything covered.

Wise folk on here may be able to give you much better advise though! ;)

  9. I'm just in the process of buying a JDM zed through a Bonsaicars auction at the moment and would quite like to put my mind at rest about how much I'm paying!

What sort of price does everyone think this is worth on the UK market as a JDM car?

    Roadster Version T

    June 2007

    3000 miles

    Grade 5

    Night blue

White / grey leather (can't remember the official name)

It's still in Japan at the moment so won't be with me for another couple of months but I'm quite happy with my UK coupe until then! :-)

  10. Hmmm, Wolverhampton. Maybe they're pulling a fast one!

Price seems good though - November 2003, 35K, full GT pack plus satnav and 350Z mats, FNSH. Was on their website at £16995 and when I got there was on the forecourt at £18495 and claimed the internet price was wrong, but they still gave it to me at the lower price.

Obviously you can't tell without seeing the car, but does that sound like a reasonable price?
