  1. Yeah the 300c was designed to use big wheels like that and they suit them, the z on the other hand looks a bit tractorish with them and just wondered how the handling was with 21" wheels. I prefer go than show lol

The 21" wheels are not on a Zed...............read his post ;)
  2. Ok, slightly embarrassing question given all the cars I've had over the years!!

So, how exactly do you tell when the disks are worn??

Porsche are telling me that I need new front disks and pads as they are "95%" worn.............and want £980 to supply and fit them.

I've read of numerous other people getting well over 70k out of theirs but my car has barely done half that mileage!!

I can see that the pads are probably shot but the disks as well?

Visually they look fine to me but I don't know what they would look like when they are shot!?!?

  3. Yeah I think the dealers just making him work as mustn't be happy with deal. Makes little sense otherwise.

You need to move banks mate. That's shocking. If you have the funds, you should be able to withdraw them in full with a few hours notice at most.

No bank should need any notice whatsoever to withdraw £7,000.......................

  4. Great, if you can see the car. What if you can't?

I still maintain it's daft, and change for the sake of it.

    I agree.

    Pisses me off.

I press the button as I walk away.

2 seconds later I can't remember if I actually locked it or not.

    I press the button again.

Now I don't know if I have just locked it or now unlocked it again.

Have to walk back to the car and pull the handle!!

Maybe I just have dementia

  5. A mate of mine has a 2004 E46 M3, with the SMG transmission. I am quite surprised (as is he) at how little difference in performance there is between the two cars - particularly on the Irish 'B' section roads during a spirited run. On paper, the M3 putting out an extra 60 horses with similar weightings (think the M3 is slightly heavier).

As a matter of interest, does anyone have experience in owning both cars? How did they compare and which did you prefer? I've only driven my mates one for a few miles so can't really comment other than the car seems well planted and has a serious rasp under full flet. Didn't get to throw it into many corners. Oh, and reverse took me a while to find on that SMG box!

Bought a new E46 M3 drop top with Ac schnitzer zorst back in 03,now own a zed which again I've had from new.

Still miss that M car now as it was one of the best cars I've owned.

Putting to one side the technological advances made with cars since then this is my comparison( coupe) not conv.

    1. Performance wise a standard Z wont keep up on track due to the power disadvantage but balance and drivability on the throttle they are on a par.

2.yes the standard brakes on the m3 are shocking!

    3. Exhaust note of that strait 6 at 8000 rpm rasping away is intoxicating!

    4. Interior/seating of the BM was second to none.but in the Z you feel your in a drivers car.

    5. Looks are subject to taste as each car is classed as a coupe and they are both so different,( saloon based verses ,two seater)

6.If I was in the market with 6k to spend on either it's a tough call if you have no desire to modify.

    7. Gonna keep my old Datsun till they put me in a box...

  6. Bare essentials??

You can't have it both ways; you said that Aston servicing would be more than £1000 per year. It's not, it's nearly half, and would probably be half again from an indy.

Plus the GTR looks like it was designed with a ruler. Sure, if you want big numbers and license losing speed, I'm sure it's great. But it can't even be remotely compared to the aesthetics of an Aston or a Maserati, looking at the Maser, it just makes me yearn for one, irrespective of it's numbers and faults, I'd forgive it.

I can't say I look at a GTR in the same way. I just looks and think, wow thats fast, and thats it.
