  1. You won't be able to have the "drop down mirror in reverse" feature on maual cars, as we don't have a gear position switch (It'll be inferred from Vehicle speed and engine speed for the EMS).

On Autos/Tiptronic the trans ECM will send out the gear position on CAN and therefore the mirrors can use this signal to drop.

There is an aftermarket product out there somewhere for this feature.

    Cheers

    Ade

Of course you can :p , mines a manual it will be triggered by the reversing light switch

  2. Had a quick flick through some stuff about JDMs. What are the implications on running costs? I know someone who had an accident in his Jap import Subaru and now the car is off the road for months while parts are shipped over.

Excuse all the questions, but I've kind of fallen in love with the idea of owning one but I'd like to work out all the details!

    Cheers

no difference in running costs whatsoever, probably cheaper as you wont feel obligated to keep running back to a main dealer for overpriced lack lustre service either ;) All parts are the same.(except brakes if you get a non brembo model )., my advice with having a JDM myself is to buy one that is actually in the country that you can view,

or even better one that someone has used in the country a while and it will probably have some nice bits on !!

  3. Mine folds in automatically when locking the doors with remote fob., :teeth: but mines a JDM.., also dips down automatically to view rear wheels when reverse is engaged

oooo look @ him, all flashy!

nice one! wish ours did that

You have to buy one of these "cheap" imports to get all these features LOL ;)

  4. Thanks for that. Re the pic: But I want mine to come up Yellow not Sunset! (Sorry couldn't resist....)

Like the full set of pics though. Obviously a well-loved example.

    Cheers!

Oh yes forgot to mention that mine was Yellow to start off with , just watch the strength of that TRF :scare:

  5. Washed my Z today, cleaned the alloys and the tail pipes! :teeth:

Looked under the bonnet and, horror of horrors, its getting dirty!

Whats the current way of cleaning the enginer bay? (When I were a lad it were steam-cleaning - do we use pressure washers now, and where should we avoid??)

    TIA,

    JohnK

get some traffic film remover (TRF ) from a car valet supplier and make a weak solution spray it all over the engine a blast it off with a pressure cleaner , will come up like a new pin, try and avoid electrical connections etc., and if you have an aftermarket air filter cover it with a plastic bag..

  6. they are all a bunch of idiots with very high opinions of themselves - the bloke leading the girls was a patronising, sexist knob, but was glossed over cos they werent quite as bad as the other lot

Yes quite agree , but if they were all efficient it wouldnt make good TV, I like car crash TV like ever one else , the bigger the **** ups the more I like it

  7. DrP,

You could always turn UP the brightness of the instrument lighting, so that the contrast between it and the full beam bulb is less.

Sounds a bit weird I know, but may work for you :D

    Gus

Hmm, interesting idea - I'll give it a go :D

What I,d do ;now I know how easy it is to remove speedo ,is to whip the bulb out and put a dash of black paint on it to tone it down slightly

  8. Thanks for all the info teddyonholiday ,

Just been browsing an American 350Z site and the list of problems that people are having with these electric windows is outstandingly bad !

I,d have thought with how long electric windows have been around a Major manufacturer could get the basic design correct on such a simple feature... One Yank went into his dealer and virtually every Z in stock had a problem with the window drop feature on new and used vehicles ! Amazing :surrender:

Most people posting on this site had had a couple of window motors fitted.. Their not cheap either ..but looks if the reset feature doesnt cure mine., a new motor is the only option :headhurt:

  9. :scare: Just realised today that my passenger side window doesnt drop down as much as the drivers side

it misses the door frame, but only by a couple of mm,s..The drivers side seems to have approx double the clearance.. Anyone know a cure for this ? before I start ripping the door cards of to have a look

If a apply just slight pressure with one finger to top of the passenger window when door is open it will drop down to the correct height, but its a bit of a pain to keep doing this.. Given the window plenty of exercise and silicone sray to rubbers and seals all to no avail.. :headhurt:

  10. Just out of interest, what is it about the Bridgestones that people don't like - is it just the wet grip? beacause I only take my car out in dry conditions, and I have no complaints at all with the std. tyres - my car seems to stick to the road very well

mine with the Bridges on just let go all the time in the DRY  . I would class them as a very dangerous tyre ,I,m suprised Nissan has not had a few claims against them ,especially in the States :scare:

  11. good luck with them! let us know please mate!:teeth:

Finally got round to putting the other set of wheels on with my new Falkens :teeth:

I cant believe its the same car , all that horrible tyre noise gone and after just a short blast I can tell they grip much better than the Bridgestones (yes even though their new and not scrubbed )

  12. I think it looks quite nice. Hope fitting goes ok!

Here a photo of it installed ,nothing to do at work today ,so got this fitted along with the other wheels with new Falken tyres on..I dont recommend fitting a different gear knob unless you have access to some good quality mole grips and a pipe spanner, its really tight to get the original item off !!

Took it for a quick spin and I must say it feels really nice change. with the shorter throw, and feels better for me with the lower position of the knob...may not suit everyone but I,m pleased..it will stop on
