  1. The situation being discussed here is exactly the same as we saw for the 300ZX Z32 in the early '90s. Initially only a UK car would do and there were (unconvincing) arguments about availability of parts and lack of service facilities for JDM cars. There has always been an undertone of manufacturer's agents being anti-JDM and servicing may be refused. At one point Nissan parts departments were instructed to charge a customer for even making an enquiry for a JDM model part (even when the part was the same as for a UK car!). Also attempted p/ex of a JDM against a new Nissan UK model is likely to lead to derisory offers!

The parts availability for JDM 300ZX models is excellent (better than UK parts sometimes). Servicing and repairs are now performed by a large number of specialists all over the country and Nissan service departments are rarely used!

UK Z32s have been over here for seventeen years now and they have rusted! Underside floor and chassis generally OK but covered in surface rust. Brake pipes corrode badly. Servicing suspension parts often presents difficulties due to corrosion. Lower rear sill, sill return and wheel arch on the rear are prone to rust perforation in a big way and repair panels have been produced for this area.

JDM Z32s are still arriving as new imports in a pretty rust free condition. I recently obtained a 1988 Z31 300ZX which is immaculate on the underside! Only JDM cars that have been here for a prolonged period may start to show the corrosion problems. Servicing on JDM imports has often been to a higher standard than UK servicing. There are more model variants and options available on JDM cars and often the owners have modified the cars with home market accessories, kits and performance items which would cost lots to implement over here. Parts supply through specialists such as myself should present no problems.

As noted in other posts, the situation with the 350Z may be that JDM cars are lower spec and have less of the UK standard options, but buying carefully and understanding the differences will pay dividends and, as time goes by, the best JDM imports will become equivalent to or possibly exceed the quality of UK cars.

However, one additional factor to consider is that the 350Z has been immensely successful by comparison to the UK issue of the Z32 300ZX - sales are greater by a factor of at least x5 at the moment and the model has more life in it yet. The change of perception in the Z32 came about partly due to the early demise of the UK car while the JDM version continued to evolve for five more years! This success of UK models may colour the perception of JDM 350Zs in years to come.

  2. Mike at MJP is pleased to announce that he has finally been let out of the control of the NHS and is available to supply your 350Z needs!

  3. Hello!

    :wheelchair::teeth:

They let me out yesterday and I'm very pleased with the speed at which my body seems to be able to mend itself (shades of Stephen King's Christine). Every day a little improvement...

Seriously - I'm not going to be doing much work this week due to voice strain and still some pain and tiredness if I do too much. Please don't phone to ask me to pallet up and engine and load it with the courier! Packaging will be slow for a while; can't drive yet, so no post office. However, I'm sure some will find business for me to do.

Many, many thanks for all your kind words before, during and after the process - everything you wrote helped me get through the week without too much trauma.

  4. Following the lack of success last time, I'm almost reluctant to announce that I'm booked in for the op again from Sunday 23rd Sepetember. In theory I'll be laid up for the following week and recuperating for a week after that.

So - no MJP, no parts and no tech advice for a little while.

Just imagine I've gone on holiday - back soon... :headhurt:

  5. My thanks for all the messages! Unfortunately my entry to hospital yesterday was postponed for a variety of reasons so, despite all the efforts involved in winding down for a week or so, I'm afraid I'm back for a while....

Watch this space for future announcements.

  6. Please note that I will not be available to take your calls, orders etc. from 16th July until at least 23rd July as (if the NHS get their act together) I'm into hospital for a bit of surgery, plus some recuperation time.

All being well, I should be able to start taking orders again during the week starting 23rd July.... :crutches:

  9. My apologies for not picking up on this sooner, but please note that the Z Club do not have an area booked and there are no privilege passes as per last year. Unless someone else has booked an area, you will be parking in the public car park...sorry!

Much as I want to attend, a prior arrangement will prevent me being there at all this year.

With enough persuasion / interest, I will book a Z Club area for JapShow 2 on October 7th (which unfortunately clashes with JapFest 2!).

For fans of running down the track at Santa Pod, the Z Club Drag Challenge dates for the rest of the year are:

    30th June (Saturday) - Round 3

    18th August - Round 4

    2nd September - Round 5

    14th October - Round 6

  10. The award winning Origin Technologies company has released two stunning new products onto the market this month under the new POGO brand name:

The Pogo Alert is an updated, colour screen version of the Origin b2 - but with more features and a sleek new look.

The Pogo Drive is a fully featured state-of-the-art Sat Nav system with fully integrated Origin driver safety system, alerting you to all types of camera, laser, congestion charging and more.

Both units are available from MJP NOW - we are official Origin Resellers, so buy with confidence. Purchase carriage free from www.mjpshop.co.uk today or call 01277 374201 to discuss Club offers!

For more info and pictures go to www.pogogps.com

  11. I have the component parts of the Type 7 kit in stock now so if anyone wants to see in the flesh it is available to view. Comes with all fixtures and fitting required. Urethane quality is excellent - very little effort required for finishing and fit should be good.

Also got a few of these carbon fibre inserts for the side emblems at £14.99 + VAT a pair (NB. LED ring is an optional extra...):

  12. I shall be seeing Hannibal Rising soon

I'm reading the book at the moment and it's not impressing me - I think Thomas Harris has lost it as a writer. The last Hannibal book read like a screenplay which I felt was quite cynical as an author.

I hope the film of Hannibal Rising is better than what I've read so far!

  13. How did you get this far into listing without "The Usual Suspects"?

    Add, for me:

Anything by Kubrick - "Lolita" to "Eyes Wide Shut"

All Matrix, but particularly the first and the Animatrix

    Shawshank Redemption

    Life of Brian

    Silence of the Lambs

    Revolver

    Two Lane Blacktop

    Easy Rider

    M.A.S.H.

and for childhood nostalgia (one of the first films I ever saw at the cinema), "Whistle Down the Wind" with a pre-pubescent (barely) Hayley Mills...
