  1. I did a big write-up on the old site at the time.

The first half day at an old airfield, learning how far you could push it when cornering before the back end stepped out, also slalom driving through the cones. Concentrated on steering - push and feed - no hands past the vertical allowed :scare:

The first hour or so after lunch on an oval skid pan ( not in your car ) - so hard to keep it going in the right direction

The remainder of the first day, then all the second day, driving on decent A roads, learning roadcraft, ie positioning, gear selection, reading the road ahead, etc.

I said at the time, and haven't changed my opinion, that it was a great couple of days, but felt a day and a bit on the roadcraft was a bit too much - not in terms of I didn't have fun driving great roads, but didn't feel I learned that much after the first couple of hours.

All depends on how you currently drive - the instructor was certainly keen to push me pretty hard which I was all up for.

My instrutor was a recently retired Police advanced driver - certainly didn't expect me to respect the 60mph A road limit

ps I think I've offered this before, but if someone can host this somewhere and have a link in FAQ then may be useful to new members - again PM me if you can help

  3. Cheers guys :D

It fits on top of the silver one, with double-sided sticky tape. You have to dismantle the plastic bits in order to fit it.

Almost a perfect fit, could have done with being about 2mm wider at the left hand side.

Dirty plastic - yeah :blush: , too many dirty walking boots

  4. Mugwump,

The overall diameter of a wheel plus tyre, is the diameter of the wheel ( say 19" ), plus twice the depth of the tyre sidewall.

When a tyre is 245*35*19, then 245 is the width, 19 is the wheel size, and 35 is the aspect ratio ( in percentage ).

Aspect ratio of 35 means 35% of the width, ie the depth of the sidewall is 0.35*245 = 85.75mm.

It them follows that 255*35*19 will have a different sidewall ( 89.25mm ), and therefore different overall wheel+tyre diameter ( 7mm difference ).

  5. Sorry to disappoint, not another seaside joke  but some info that might save you some dosh

If you go to the pluspoints website, then you can nominate one day of the week, and from now until the end of the year you get double points for all fuel bought on that day. :yahoo:

Once you've chosen, you can't change ( otherwise you'd change it every time you were about to go the garage ), so make sure you choose the best day for you.

  6. Don't know about the midlands mate, but up here is Scotland it definitely pays to avoid the cities.

I was quoted about £190 in Edinburgh, and £140 in Livingston which is about 15 miles away. I asked why ( same chain of dealers ) and was told it was down to higher business rates in the cities meant their hourly rate was much higher.

Took my own oil and ended up paying about £110. :teeth:
