May be a stupid question, but do I have to have an apple device to connect it to?

I don't have a mac, iPhone or ipad :).

Still no updates from police or insurance company.

I dont think so no, I think you can make an apple account on their website for it to work but not 100% sure on that. I think Samsung have their own version so could try them instead

Yeah possibly hidden away somewhere waiting to see if it has a tracker before switching plates and sending elsewhere. I did spend about 3 hours looking around all the hiding spots I could think of but could literally be on somebodies driveway down a random road, the chances of me spotting it are pretty slim..

I did look at different tracker options for my daily as I am now a bit unsure how safe my area is, but they are quite expensive if you get a subscription like service.

More tempted to see if I can find something like a super cheap phone on a contract and just leave it in the car on charge (hidden in glovey or something) and just use a tracker that way lol.

Yeah I have dealt with insurance valuations before, they love to lowball it. Thankfully I have had a look at various places and dealers are selling zeds for crazy prices, so should be fairly easy to get a solid price for it :).

Sorry to hear this, my previous car was stolen in 2019, police did find it so don't lose hope! Apple airtags are a cheap solution to give some sort of tracking and easy to hide in the car

Feeling absolutely p***** off with insurance.

I only want to insure my 350z for one day in order to drive it to the bodyshop I work at.... in order to clean it up, and yet no one will insure me for one day???

My plan is/was to insure it for one day so I could take it to the bodyshop and clean it up, then store it in a garage and class it as a sorn so i could work on it and modify it since it is taxed.

Has anyone else had this problem??  And if so how on earth can it be solved?

I am aware that my age which is 24 might be a problem but even so! Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

You could get a quote for a full year and then cancel for refund the next day? Might have to pay a cancellation fee but could be a cheaper way to get it for a day

4. Hi all,

I've seen the custom boot dividers others have had made om the forum and fancy one for myself, I got in touch with Ian a few months ago but no response yet - does anyone know if he is still making them? If not anyone know of anyone else doing this?

If anyone has a spare one laying around I'd be interested in purchasing it :)

Thanks!

My budget is more 5-6k just for a fun daily but my first thoughts when i seen the advert is that it could be a steal if I got a good price but after I went to see it more and more issues popped up, so I’ll just wait for the right one

A bit above your range but this one looks decent and seems decent price for the mileage and age

Going to cut to the chase, just want to get rid off as easily as possible. Webuyanycar say £5.5k so if a forum member wants it for that ono they can have it, but also looking to see if I'm being stupid

Info as per my build thread HERE

Basically:

56 plate roadster, azure blue, built in sat nav etc., revup model so 296bhp

Mileage about 50k I think, but it has been SORN without MOT for a couple of years now, but has been garaged since and started up occasionally.

Mods include:

Refurbed Rays with blue locking nuts, the old set of rays can go with the car if needed

JWT Popcharger

Stubby aerial

Z badges all round

15/20mm spacers front/back

Front brace (the one sold on here that goes between the slam panel and the normal strut brace)

Aluminium slam panel

Japspeed K4 exhaust (loud)

Mishimoto rad

Some blue engine detailing

D1 spec controller hardwired in

Latest version of the DVD for the sat nav

Bumper tuck

LED lights replacing all interior bulbs and sidelights

Bad points:

Small tear in the corner of the roof but doesn't let water in

No MOT (obviously, but it passed fine before I garaged it)

Battery is dead but I can jump it from my other car and it runs like that

Some scratching on the drivers wing/bonnet that I can't seem to polish out, but isn't that noticeable.

I replaced the bumper lights with DRLs but they have stopped working.

Anyway, that's about it, let me know if you think I'm being stupid or if anyone wants to come trailer it away then by my guest :D

Id try Evans Halshaw for a trade in price, I've taken a few cars there the checks are (very!) light and gave me better money than Wbac. Took a fiat 500 only worth £3.5k to wbac and the guy spent 45 minutes going round every inch of the car and then offered 1850  Went down the road to Evans Halshaw they spent 5 minutes looking max and matched their online quote.

7. Welcome along mate, nice car very jealous of the seats, look like the frost colour? My transmission was quite noisy I changed the gearbox oil helped slightly, mine does clunk a bit if changing gear harshly so not sure if maybe just a characteristic of the car

Hi guys,

Very off topic, i know, but i'm interested to know how much people are saving for their pensions / investments for later in life, e.g. how much are you putting away each month, or what final pension pot size are you aiming for...?

I genuinely haven't got a clue on how much is 'normal' to be putting away, although i guess that's irrelevant as everybody's circumstances will be different.  I'm aiming for early retirement (57 at the latest) but I've neglected my pension until recently, only contributing minimally.  I'm now 37 - so i'm aware I'll need to 'kick the arse out of it' from now on... but I'd still like to understand what normal is!

For reference, i've found the below quote on The Telegraph website.

According to the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association, a single pensioner would need a pension income of £10,200 to live a “minimum level” lifestyle in retirement, which is already slightly more than the current maximum new State Pension of just over £9,100 a year.

Profile Pensions estimates that a single pensioner could live comfortably on £17,818 a year, which would require a pension pot of £237,000 at retirement. If you’re in a couple or don’t own your own home, you will need to aim for a higher income and pension pot.

The average UK pension pot after a lifetime of saving stands at £61,897. With current annuity rates, this would buy you an income of only around £3,000 extra per year from 67, which added to the maximum State Pension, makes just over £12,000 a year, just enough for a basic retirement lifestyle.

Cheers.

I read this on moneysupermarket a while ago which I found quite interesting.

'Take the age you start your pension and halve it. Then put this % of your pre-tax salary into your pension each year until you retire.'

Half your age you started the pension can seem quite high but once youve included your employers contribution its a bit more manageable. Obviously just a rough guide but gives you some sort of idea

Not trade sale, they're like 200miles away, they sent it like this and I wasn't there when it was accepted, they tried to fix it by replacing the droplinks, didn't tell me the issue was still there when delivered

So I'm gonna get it all priced up and ask them to pay for the parts

Hey guys, I'm needing help sourcing a nearside catalytic converter for 2004 Nissan 350Z coupe
It has rattling underneath, garage said it was needing replaced, I bought it from a dealership, hasn't been over 30days.. so wanting to source a replacement before contacting them, cheers. Even a pair would do.

Not sure where to post so thought I'd stick it in my welcome message :teeth:

I'd say if it hasn't even been 30 days there's a decent chance the dealership will sort it all out for you unless you bought as a trade sale etc. Worth a try, worst thing that happens is they say no and you can negotiate that they fit the part that you will buy if thats your current plan anyway?

No I haven't written my car off yet :drive1

My insurance renewal is coming up. I'm with AF and have been for a few years, my premium goes up ~£40 each year and its now getting close to £700. The main reason for me going through AF is for the Agreed Valuation amount, mines set to £7k at the moment but they love lowering each lower after I've renewed...

If I go through a standard insurance quote they value my car at £2.5k private £3.5k dealer and its normally around a £350 premium.  On that basis I've always thought paying the ~£300 higher premium to AF is worth it as I'd get ~£4k more in the case of a write off.

Having only ever written my moms car off 20 years ago I've no experience of actually claiming. So was wondering if anyone has any experience of claiming and what value they got for their car. I can't find any 350z for sale for much under £4k private or dealer.

One other point, I can't seem to get any quotes to come up through the standard insurers (admiral etc.) is there something going on in the insurance world at the moment that is restricting access to insurance? I tried removing all mods and also just reusing the same quote as last year and go compare only brought back about 4 options. I'm going to ring Admiral up later to see if they can see whats up with my application. Nothings change year on year apart from 1 year etc NCB. I did do my first speed awareness course, but my license is clean.

I sometimes don't get quotes from Admiral on certain comparison sites for some reason. Try confused.com/comparethemarket if you haven't already as I can normally get quotes from the Admiral group (admiral, bell etc) on those sites

12. Got my wheel back from Royal Steering Wheels today and really pleased with how it came out, much prefer it to my original! Its leather on top an bottom with alcantara inbetween with grey stitching. Fits in with the interior quite well imo :)

Had a 350z last year but became not economically viable to keep (blown head gasket and rear quarter panel damage thanks to a van). I've only started missing the car more recently as we didn't part on good terms but I havent bonded with its replacement (Mazda 3 MPS) so am now looking to get into a 370z. Found a couple I like but havent had the guts to pull the trigger on one yet. It would be a big chnk of my savings (don't own my own house yet and don't have many bills to pay) but the thought of depreciation concerns me with the 400z on the horizon. Would now be a good or bad time to buy, and should I do it?

Bit of alternative viewpoint, I am in the same position as you with not owning a house with little bills to pay. I previously had an m140 which while new and shiny, I almost disliked because of how expensive (to me) it was if that makes sense! Since I have replaced it with a 350z I have enjoyed driving the Z far more, as much less of my savings sunk into it and feels like less to worry about. Not sure if it would appeal to you having already owned one but could go down 350z route again as fair bit cheaper? I agree with the others though I would imagine the 400z is a while off so if depreciation is the main worry I wouldn't let that put yourself off a 370 :)

14. Hi all,

I would be interested in purchasing some frost/cream leather seats for 350z if anyone happens to have a pair they have removed/don't want? Don't need to be perfect but would need to be in a half decent condition

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks Mr Bru,

service history is good, 2 year gap in it but there are multiple receipts for that time for filters and consumables as he Gent claims he was doing it himself (he’s an engine development engineer and had proof lol)
I have also seen a beautiful example near me now on Autotrader, silver instead of this one in black, FSH, just had a full detail, Advan Sports all round and 53k on the clock instead of the 66k of the eBay one. tempting but much more dear (£9.8k)

full hpi check came back crystal

And yes; the missus is very understanding.
I’m fortunate enough to work in that “essential workers” category  and She’s a sparky so she’s never really worked a day in her life ;)

stay safe

Not sure if already mentioned but I'd double check the headlights for condensation etc as quite common, I had to change one of mine soon after purchasing as it failed. The facelift headlight is really expensive from dealer £600+ so unless you get lucky buying one from a scrapper etc can be quite a big bill!

I would be using the virus to your advantage definitely a good bargaining tool to have! Dealers will be struggling to sell cars & private sellers will be struggling too as all the major trade in car places e.g. WBAC have slashed their values massively so not much of a back up plan if they can't sell privately

Good luck!
