hi jay yes im looking at the same cats[kinetix] as they seem to get through mot from what threads i have read so far. but thats on the assumption the dealer coughs up, i know oem new cats would be ideal but i want to be realistic, at the end of the day the dealer would have paid as little as possible to get it through mot before i picked it up, at least this way i know whats been done and looking to the future im gonna probably put another exhaust on it. They have deliberately been a pain in the ass to deal with to the point where they are saying its not they're fault, to read the messages back is cringe worthy i wish i could post the entire conversation its most entertaining for a neutral.

hi Kieran the deadline is because they were giving me the runaround and i just had enough, if they dont cough up it goes back and they know im not bluffing as you say there is plenty more out there.Although i do keep staring at the car lol

so why do sites list exhaust upto model year 05 and others 06-09

i just told the dealer im going for refund. its gonna be too much hastle to try and sort in a short space of time, he said he will get them, i said after all thats gone on i dont trust him, im 5k down with car i cant drive.Its getting a bit complicated now, i didnt realise its different cats for different engine revisions!

well the sport cat idea was probably wrong and new nissan cats i assume would cost a fortune, i dont mind 2nd hand cats if it gets me driving again soon, as for dealer providing them, they couldnt even post me the battery cover that was left off during the mot, it would probably take weeks of me asking/reminding all the time they will stall so the dispute runs out of time[ i have to assume the worse case] the sport cats can be ordered and delivered in short space of time and they would be the berk type i guess[ unless anyone else has a better make in mind] so getting it done would be quick, but no one seems to have any standard cats for a revup de motor, so it would mean waiting which i dont want to do. nightmare!

i would be quite happy with standard cats but my only concearn is how long they would last for, i just wouldnt know how old. any idea of cost?

thanks Ricky i have an update. after texting dealer that i spoke to garage they come back to me asking what they could do to put right, i have got a quote for new sports cats at 450 and my garage will fit and do mot for 150 so 600 quid in total. the cats should sort the noise and emissions issue, my garage are going to look at it tomorrow to make sure its a straight forward fit with no surprises and take photos of exhaust. the dealer wants the garage to email them the quote.to be honest im getting a little pi**ed off im doing all this leg work to put right what should not have happened. Basically i am very torn between getting it sorted and getting a refund and getting a different car with no hassles what do you guys think

just spoke to mot station and car was never retested and now the dealer is not answering me!!!! credit card company have sent me a form to fill in which i need to include supporting evidence. looks like the dealer has put there head in the sand now. starting to get a little worried, evidence wise i have our conversation print out and also .gov mot failure, i dont have fail sheet from garage or anything else. a phone call to trading standards now i think

hi Ekona telling off squarely taken on the chin and deserved. i am talking to them on whatsapp and no not on phone, text as everything said is recorded and i can print it off, i already have them admitting fault in text. as for name and shame well ok its Leo's car sales uk ltd based near mansfield they are still saying its an honest mistake and they will sort it. in all honesty all electrics on the car work fine the engine after i did a complete reset of everything sounds sweet, im not after making a profit or getting one over on the dealer 2x cats may sort it if i can connect to the custom exhaust thats on there. thing is i have no ability to lift the car to have a good look the "Y" pipe is painted black and is not a "Y" shape its more like an "n" lol i not seen anything like it. anyway legally the cc company will have all they need and they told me they will refund and then investigate so i dont forsee any issue. thanks for the advice and telling off. lesson learnt believe me.

thanks Rik, TRUST is the word, and i did and got bitten, they assured me if i travelled up i would be happy with the car and that they were 100% honest and its a family business, AA approved is what done it for me. i thought it would mean honesty i was so so wrong, im 52 and no stranger to buying exotic cars and bikes but i have honestly never been bitten like this.

not sure what you mean, i can assure you to get through an mot this custom straight thru junk exhaust will need to be changed, as for refund the cc company are on it and with the physical evidence i have i will get it. now if your saying they are more likely to opt for the cost of repair and mot then thats my choice to accept or not. At this stage im more inclined for a refund and buy a decent car from an enthusiast on this site, which i should have done in the first place

hi davey all i saw was the new tyre fitted they had no failure sheet or emissions sheet or mot. i was simply told they would post me the mot. i am going to continue with the credit card dispute and being that the car has no mot they will have to come down and pick the car up on trade plates, so far to replace de-cats with cats and exhaust plus fitting and mot i think its around £1250-1500. i wont accept 2nd hand nissan cats as they could be on last legs. So i think they will opt for refunding but we will see tomorrow

ok jetpilot yeah think your right, i see your from Poole, im only in portsmouth. once this nightmare is over either i will have this car[sorted] or another but we will have to arrange a meet for us southerners somewhere

thanks jay could you tell me the test station as i would like to speak to them regarding the retest that the dealer swears was done, also i want to let them know not to be swayed into giving a retest pass with the car 200 miles away, i cannot get the info from .gov for another 5 days and dont have the v5c

Thanks for all the input guys, when a situation like this occurs it really helps to have support like this. Kryptek49 thanks for the tech rundown. it was in my mind to replace both rear tyres as when i looked over the car i could see they would need replacing, also the advised part of the mot brake lines etc i would be prepared to get done as it would not have prevented an mot pass, im not an unreasonable person the car is 06 on 65,000. but the exhaust issue is a different matter it looks to me like a custom made affair so new cats and cat back looks the only option. I paid 5295 for the car at the time i thought this was a good deal, but with about 1k for exhausts and mot that another tester could fail other things i really cannot see the dealer being prepared to pay.A refund looks the most likely outcome. umster thanks for the advice mate, all comms have been via whats app messaging and the dealer has clearly admitted that this should never have happened and admitted liability. anyone know if i can prints a whats app conversation? thanks again guys

its a .gov gateway where you can check if the vehicle is mot'd, also if you have the 11 digit v5c you can also check where/what mot station did the mot

Hi Kieran, i wont be backing down mate, before i travelled up there they assured me that it would have a years mot, i have now discovered it has de-cat pipes so could not have passed mot or re-test without those being replaced, i now am sure they knew they couldnt get an mot without spending a significant amount of money. i have told them what has been discovered and have given them the option of refund and collect the car or accept quotes and pay for the car to be mot'd down here.Dont think they will like either option. i will keep this thread updated, oh if anyone has any cats and/or stainless exhaust they want to sell let me know thanks

Hi so my 350z which was recently bought failed mot due to noise and emissions, having looked its also de-catted which is instant fail, so im looking for either standard cats or high flow cats and also a stainless exhaust system that would be from the cats back, if anyone has anything they think suitable please let me know cheers

so i have had a look under the car and it is fitted with de-cat pipes, my local mot tester said this was an instant fail is that correct, what he actually said was "if they are visible but clearly been replaced its a fail regardless of emissions" i have a problem with the dealer at the moment and an mot failure which was for emissions and noise of exhaust excessive

Hi thanks guys, i am more than happy to let the dealer get it put right, the garage is different to the dealer. so the dealer is saying its the garages fault for not issuing the retest pass lol, thing is the car is now 200 miles away so what the dealer expects the garage to do i dont know, but if a pass cert gets issued with 3rd december on it i will know they tested emissions on another car and got round it that way but my friend said the garage would have to be seriously stupid to do that.So the real options are the dealer pays for repairs and mot down here or he comes to get the car and refunds me and takes back on trade plates as i cannot legally drive it. you are absolutely right though, i am old enough to know that i shouldnt have trusted the dealers word, warning bells should have sounded then and i should have walked away. but because they are AA approved i thought i was safe.The dealer at the moment seems more concearned about the credit card dispute than getting the car sorted which is also raising some worry. well we will see what monday brings i guess
