I spoke to them.
For £500 they can do their "fix" but that leaves the immobiliser disabled and a light on the dash.
My mechanic is getting a quote for an ECU replacement so I should hear about that tomorrow.
The dealer who sold me the car said he would pay for the repair as it's still under warranty, I think my biggest struggle is going to be getting him to agree that spending over £1k for an ECU is the only solution.

My mechanic spent the day on this today, checked for air leaks, cleaned the throttle bodies, ran diagnostics, reset the ECU etc all of which made no difference.
He found 2 air pipes hidden under the engine cover that were disconnected so he reattached them. Now it still idles high and is hunting / fluctuating even more.
It looks like the ECU is my last option, having read this https://h-dev.co.uk/2016/08/18/350z-hr-vq35hr-high-idle-fix/?v=79cba1185463
And a bunch of other forums etc out there I think an ECU replacement is the only thing left that will fix this.

I had that false floor up when I was doing the work, if I remember correctly it revealed the plastic bottom of the cubby and there was a hole in that where the Bluetooth adapter cables are now tucked. I remember at the time thinking I preferred it with the false floor but I'm gonna have to take another look now

Kyle, yup I've tried the pedal dance multiple times ( both before and after cleaning AirAsia flow sensors etc)
Thanks for the advice Jack. I'm not going to touch it again for now, will let the mechanic sort it on Tues, the dealer who sold it to me will be paying for the work anyway so might as well let someone more clued up take a look.

Cheers Kyle.
Last week I cleaned the air flow sensors and sprayed some egr cleaner up through the rubber tubes to the throttle bodies while the engine was running but it made no difference.
I took a closer look at the throttle bodies today without removing them and have them a clean as best as I could with a clean cloth and it actually seems like it's helped a little.
It's going to the garage on Tuesday so I will get them to try a full thorough clean as the first thing before they start dismantling the engine any further.
Curious about the throttle body... How stiff are the butterflies to move normally?
Should you be be able push them both ways or do they only move in one direction?
The car was apparently serviced by the dealer when I bought it... Looking at the air filters, they certainly aren't new, is that something you'd expect to be changed in a standard service?
Got some new ones on order anyway, going for these https://www.tarmacsportz.co.uk/nissan/nissan-350z/cosworth-nissan-350z-07-high-flow-synthetic-air-filter-twin-air-box-type.html

Tried this fix today... It's not perfect but definitely feel better, thanks strudul

Just in case it helps someone out...
Turns out I missed a setting on the initial start up screen, if you're using an amp make sure that you select network mode rather than standard mode. You'll have to do a full reset to get back to that option.
Still having some android auto related issues but it seems to be an app / phone issue and an internet search shows I'm not the only one

Just put a quote through on moris.co.uk to insure my track time, after fees it's £82.95, not too bad really.
That's with 2 previous track days experience taken into account

Has anyone here had to have their ECU replaced or know how much it costs?
I've got the high rev (when idling) issue and so far the usual pedal dance etc hasn't worked. I'm getting it looked at properly next week but I'd like to have any idea of costs in the worst case scenario.

I have track time booked for 16:40.
Has anyone got a recommendation for someone who will insure the track time? Only need 20 mins, would rather not buy a whole days worth

Tried the pedal dance with no luck
Checked for air leaks and it seemed ok, cleaned the mass airflow sensors and sprayed some other cleaner (erg) I think up through the throttle body when the engine was running, then re-did the pedal dance... No luck.
This article describes my issue, maybe I need a new ECU https://h-dev.co.uk/2016/08/18/350z-hr-vq35hr-high-idle-fix/?v=79cba1185463
Will be taking it to a mechanic

So it turns out that the way this is installed has a couple of issues, mostly that Bluetooth phone calling isn't working and Google assistant can't talk back to me, I guess it's because of the way the speakers are plugged in. Looks like I'm gonna have to hack at those cables after all.

My girlfriend and I were planning to come to Japfest, it will be even better now I have a Zed of my own. It's not modified or anything though, is it still welcome on the club stand?
Are there any restrictions about arrival or leaving times? The website also talks about there being some track time available, will that be possible if I'm parked up on the stand?
Cheers

Just finished installing my pioneer da230dab. Thanks to cs2000 for the guide and my girlfriend for helping, would have taken twice as long without a second pair of hands.
I didn't do the harness / speaker wire hack that everyone else seems to have done and I'm happy with the sound levels, the only down side is that it thinks all of the speakers are front speakers.
While doing this I also removed the old mobile phone adapter and replaced it with the usb cable, particularly happy with that part
this is how I connected up the speaker cables, seemed to give the best sound and I thought the pic might be useful for someone else in the future as there instructions weren't particularly clear.
The only real issue I'm left with is that my steering wheel controls don't work despite buying the adapter, they were broken before on the original stereo so I guess there is a more serious problem with them, has anyone else had this before?

Welcome to the forum! I live in Abingdon and currently on a hunt for a Zed
Awesome, I work in Abingdon.
I'm certainly no expert but when you've got yours, if you ever need a hand with any work I can help by holding spanners or something
I found there weren't too many Zeds for sale around here, ended up buying mine from a 2nd hand dealer near Luton

Just bought my first 350z less than a week ago, it's quite an upgrade from my old 1.6l Alfa 147
First plan is to fit a new stereo over the bank holiday weekend, then I'll be saving up for coilovers I think as I plan to take it on occasional track days.
Do we have any other members in Oxford?
Here are some pics after I gave her a clean on Sunday.

Thanks, gonna give this a try tomorrow. I've not even had the car a week and after driving it around a bit more today it seems that starting it cold it revs at about 1000rpm then after it's warmed up and I stop at lights etc it revs high at about 1500 and starts to fluctuate a lot. Maybe that's why I didn't notice it on my short test drive.
If it doesn't help I will have some words with the Dodgy 2nd hand car dealership and see if I can get them to sort it
-
Hi all.
New to 350z's and this forum, I'll do an intro post when I'm a bit less busy at the weekend but I just wanted seek some advice quickly.
The car idles at about 1500rpm and often fluctuates up to about 1800. Based on a quick search this seems high and obviously the fluctuating isn't really normal.
Are there any simple things I can try here for myself before I get a professional to look at it?
Cheers
Martin
ECU replacement cost
in 350Z General
Posted
It's already been plugged into 2 diagnostics machines, a snap on one and another specialised for Japanese cars but I can't remember what it's called. Both show no faults under normal conditions... Only when air sensors etc get unplugged as you'd expect.
I called a local Nissan dealer who weren't familiar with the issue, they would want £70 to run their diagnostics and if it is the ECU they quoted me around £1700 for a replacement.
As I've only had the car a few weeks and the dealer has already said he would pay for repairs I have decided that I will let the dealer sort it.
I've told him that it will need to go to a nissan specialist, not his dodgy mate round the corner but it's up to him now. I just can't afford to incur any further costs with either diagnostics or replacing parts trial and error style.
Thanks for the advice though, I will update when I've made some progress, I really hope it's sorted in time for Japfest
