  1. So this just made my day.

    - Called up my insurer to ask about declaring mods and the costs involved

    - They wanted an extra £100

    - Did a new quote (including the mods) on a price comparison site just out of curiosity

    - Came back at £200 less than I'm currently paying and that was with the same provider!?

    - Spent hours on the phone asking about changing my policy to reflect the difference in price, but got refused

    - Decided the best way to proceed would be to cancel my old policy and take out a new one

    - This meant accepting the excessive admin / cancellation fees, but saves me the additional cost of declaring mods AND lowers my premiums for the year

    - Went ahead and took out the new policy with the intention of cancelling my old policy

    - All went through smoothly

    - Called up to cancel the old policy, expecting to be hit by the extortionate admin / cancellation fees that I was repeatedly warned of

    - They said that because there would be no gap in my insurance (new policy starts immediately after the previous one is cancelled), they wouldn't charge me anything.

    - Just saved £300 and now I can do some mods without voiding my insurance

  2. Read something somewhere about rust on the wheel arches and how dirt get's trapped under the lip, so thought I'd check my Z and see what's what.

Had a look and found some very minor surface rust on 1 side, nothing to worry about I think(?). Anyway, while I was there I had a fondle to see how much crap (if any) was stuck under the lips...

Turns out there was an entire farm in there. Not just mud, but stones and all sorts. I was scooping it out by the handful...

Threw most of it over the wall, but you can see the bits that fell on the floor below. Some nice weight-saving there though, must be a a few kilograms lighter now...

Also got round to sorting my fuel cap cable. It snapped the other month so I've reconnected it with a terminal. No idea how long it will hold, but it seems to work quite well.

Next job is definitely a good clean, cos it's looking filthy. Have delayed it thus far as the weather's been awful recently, but will get on it this weekend as it's supposed to be nice and sunny on Saturday (fingers crossed).

  3. Any reason you're using Photobucket?

I can't stand it and would strongly suggest imgur.

As for posting images on here, you can just do the following:

    - right click the image

    - select "copy image" (on Chrome)

    - paste the image directly into your reply (ctrl + v)

    - you should see it immediately

  4. Searched everywhere but couldn't find a definite answer. Can someone confirm which AC belt I need for a Rev Up?

Is it the same as the Non Rev Up?

I'm sure I read somewhere that it's shorter on the Rev Up?

Or is that the alternator belt?

Gates is saying it's the 4PK948, but it also says that's for every DE...

    Cheers

  5. Roof - wrap

    Wheels - dip.

    Job - jobbed :p

Yup, sounds like the best way of doing it.

trust me vinyl is not always as easy applying as it seems especially as you want to do the wheels...also I wouldn't recommend the cheap ebay vinyl...go for a 3m or avery vinyl as they are well known for quality

you can get a high gloss spray can soon from Autodip and you won't beat that with any vinyl wrap there is when it comes to application...

Looks like that stuff is only in the US atm and almost 4x the price of Plasti Dip...

Any idea when we will get it in the UK and potential pricing?

  6. If you put that the other way round, price, easiness and asthetics youve described plastidip perfectly ;) If you want asthetics first, vinyl wrap is a much better choice and unless you have two left hands, a roof panel will be fairly easy with some patience.

I wouldnt do wheels though, so maybe dip will be the better option.

Vinyl seems to win on price actually (as long as you DIY, don't count time spent as a cost, and compare it to 4/5 coats of Plasti Dip  )

  7. Wanting to change the colour of some stuff while I have free time over Christmas.

Thinking of DIYing the roof, front reflectors, and rims (RAYS) black.

It seems that vinyl is cheaper than Plasti Dip in the UK, and will give a nice glossy finish, but it's not quite as easy to apply for awkward shapes.

I think for the roof and reflectors it will be just as easy to wrap them and will look much better, but I've got some concerns about the rims. There's a lot of holes and curves to try fill and I'm not sure I'll be able to do a decent job.

Any tried wrapping their RAYS? Had a search and couldn't find anything. Or should I just Plasti Dip them?

As for wrapping, am I right in thinking it's best to go with Avery Supreme?

    Any advice / suggestions welcome.

    Cheers
