  1. Not wanting to sound like a reckless hooligan lol but sounds like my kind off road. Although been a sports bike rider and my last rear wheel drive motor been a lot lighter, I am finding the Z a little lardy and weighing more to the Gt side. That said she handles herself well for a fat girl :-o
  2. Superstu and Tom89 thanks will have a look at these. I've heard of the black forest and will definitely look into that. Thanks for these great suggestions everyone, really appreciated
  3. Been to the ring twice before and to Cochem it a fab drop down out of the mountain to a beautiful place. Good tip cheers
  4. that would be fantastic pal thanks and safe travels.
  5. Hi folks, In September I'm heading off for the wife's 30th birthday on a 12 day Road trip through France, Switzerland, Austria and back through Germany. Germany last so there's chance for a cheeky lap or two of the ring. The question is has anybody done such a monster run and can give any tips. Other than drag a petrol tanker behind us. Also Amy good mountain passes you can suggest or must see's in any of the 4 countries mentioned. Cheers Matt
  6. From what I've read on the subject and not any personal experience at all just to be clear. If your clutch bitting point was within usual tolerance to start and then after some spirited driving this has happened then I would go with slave cylinder. May be worth new fluid and re-bleed and go from there. Can't remember of the top of my head what year they moved the slave cylinder inboard, but if on yours it on the outside happy day's. It's an easier fix if it is that. Hopefully people can add to my poor attempt at helping. Best of luck
  7. I would head over pal but I'm out already unfortunately. What about if I try and arrange a get together for us local lot somewhere for another night or weekend day sometime soon.
  8. Thanks for your input Alex. After spending some more time looking at some photographs of the engine without the timing cover on. I fail to see how the gallery plates can be removed without taking the timing chain and cam gears off. Going from the photographs on the t shaped gallery the screws at either end are obscured by the left and right cam gear. Also on the lower of the two galleries the cam chain tensioner is in the way of at least one screw. Obviously I don't have the engine open infront of me so this is why I was deferring to people with past experience or a bigger brain than me ;-).
  9. Hi big thanks to you and everyone else that replied. Can I just pick your brains a little more. If you don't mind. Just to Confirm then in order to get to the gaskets, is it a case of fan and rad removal. Then drive belts and pullys off and timing casing removed. After that you can get to all the bolts for the oil gallery plates and slide the plates out from behind the timing chain. In a nut shell? Thanks again
  10. OK I read the topic on the issue with the HR engine oil gallery gaskets blowing with some major trepidation! I was quite shocked really to think that on a performance engine that had not only been around as long as this one has. But also with the HR engine been a 90% revision on the DE, they would have not made such a crapy blunder in the engineering. Sorry I'll get to the point and the question. I have no abnormal oil pressure issue yet, 'touch wood and pray to the God of combustion engines' however if it is a case of when not if then I'm all about prevention rather than cure. My 2008 HR engined Z has done 60 thousand miles so unless my timing chain looked fetieuged/worn for any reason I would just be wasting money to replace it. However from what I can see and understand the timing chain has to be removed in order to get the oil gallery face plates off. Is this correct or has anyone done it or do they know if it can be done without removing the chain.
  11. Ah not far from me I was just on my way home in Sandal. Are you busy this afternoon, thinking of calling in at the bikers cafe at Sherburn for a brew if you fancy joining me for one or if more local is better I don't mind.
  12. Cheers pal, are you local to the Wakefield area. Do you get to many events or meets?
  13. Morning pal, that would have been me. Just passing the cricket ground and park. Cheers for the nod back, nice to see another Z floating about. Safe to say I'm not an elderly chain smoker lol.
  14. I suggest a guide for those that really shouldn't be going near a car then. Been stumped by a plastic clip should be a sure fire sign they shouldn't be doing anything to a vehicle. Hence the reason I didn't over complicate the guide.
  15. I don't do frustration, been an engineer for my living, it's simply a material fetieuge issue. I don't just snap them off for the laugh and expense, most are OK but some are simply weekend by the elements.
  16. Ok my first how to on here, hope this helps folks. Skill level. Basic D.I.Y level Usual rules take your time, think about what your doing. The hardest part is what most take for granted, jack and secure the vehicle properly your heads going to be under it. Items you need... Car jack. Axle stand (best practice) Stubby posi drive. Flat head screw driver. 10mm socket and drive/10mm spanner. Pre order a pack of plastic arch liner 20 x 8 clips from Ebay as if they haven't been off before they will snap when removing. Arch clips 1. Jack the car and support on axle stands, wheel ramps are not an option as you will need to turn the wheels. The windscreen washer tank with both front and rear pumps are behind the drivers side wheel arch. The headlight washer tank and pump are behind the passenger wheel arch liner. To allow access to the windscreen washer pumps and inner arch liner put full LEFT lock on the wheels after jacking and securing the vehicle. 2. Remove the three 10mm bolts under the car, one holds the arch liner to the front bumper the other two hold the arch liner to the under tray. 3. Now you can pull the edge of the under tray down to reveal two of the plastic arch clips that need to be removed. Then remove the remaining three clips in the wheel arch itself. 4. Finally there are two posi drive screws in the arch lip on the rolled edge of the wing, remove these. 5. Now you will be able to ease the arch liner out, revealing the windscreen washer tank. The left pump been the rear and the one closest to you on the right been the front pump. My front windscreen washer pump was broken and this was the one i was replacing. They are available of Ebay for about £8. You need to unplug the loom plug, this is easier with the flat blade screwdriver to press in the tab and pull the connector plug off. Next ease the small feed pipe of the end of the pump, again can be eased off with the screwdriver. The washer pump itself is simply a push fit into the washer tank, simply pull the washer pump down and back to remove. The rubber sealing grommet will more than likely remain in the tank, I chose to reuse the old grommet as it looked a better fit than the one on the replacement pump. To fit the new pump simply push it home, then connect the feed pipe and connector plug. Refitting the arch liner is as much of a wrestle as getting it out I'm afraid, but its all part of the fun right! 'I can see clearly now my washer works, all obstetrical in my way' lmao I hope this helps some of you guys and gals.
  17. Morning Matt, yeah that will be brilliant mate, hoping to get mine done Sunday morning Just need a break in this bloody crapy weather lol, be nice to keep the Z clean for longer than 5 mins aswell. Same idea here to be honest and do an oil and filter change at the same time.
  18. Kiran, firstly morning mate. I can either talk you through it today, as I have the same problem and have the new pump to fit this weekend. When I do it I'll be putting a thread on to help folks. Regards Matt
  19. Thanks for the warm welcome folks. For those that were asking I'm in the Wakefield area. Would be great to get to know some local fellow Z owners.

  21. Hi again. I say again as I joined the site while I was searching for The Z. Well I found one that ticked the box's, sold the old motor and here it is. 2008 HR engine Gt pack. Already made the DRL upgrade before I even taxed it. There a must if I do say so myself, I'll put a thread on somewhere with a 'how to', to help out if people are interested.
