  1. Hi all, sorry for the mistake, just need the boxes not the pipes. Got pics below for reference
  2. Hi All, I'm looking to take my new zed back to stock. It's got metal tubes and pop chargers on at the moment and I'd like to put the OEM airboxes and pipes back on. Filters would be handy too but those are easy enough to source. Thanks D'oh! This is what you get for trying to do things from memory after overloading your brain with pics of zeds. I don't have metal pipes, just the pop chargers on OEM pipes. Pics will be below
  3. gratz must feel fantastic having finally got there
  4. i was gonna be sensible and get the best condition zed when my savings were done. then i saw a black one under budget with the nismo kit and now it's parked out side a whole 4 months earlier than expected she really does look fantastic in black, but i am completely biased as that's my favourite colour. so if you have a thing for black cars too, hold out for one, it will make you happier in the long run!
  5. a belated welcome to the forum and a shining example of why this forum is so good, great work all
  6. I have just paid for him to go on my insurance on my insignia just for when he needs a 5 seater/estate car. Im not silly, he can now borrow my car, but will have to leave his 350Z with me while he has it. I have told him to come and borrow the insignia any time he likes. so now you need to conspire with his friends to give him plenty of reasons to need more than 2 seats. a most cunning plan indeed He will do when he stops driving round in the car all the time... well take pics of him driving past then!
  7. hello hello, there is a meets section to this forum, so have a poke about
  8. And it is, 4 months earlier than I expected I now have my zed. Put a pic up on the first post Such a dream to drive, it's exactly what I've wanted to drive all my life
  9. So green right now. I have to wait one more sleep. So how often will you be confiscating you sons car so you can drive it?
  10. I just got the feeling when reading reviews and watching vids that the zed did things that matched my taste. I think the other 2 are great cars, but the zed is just better suited to me than they are. Roll on saturday when I get to bring my zed home
  11. Now that is a sneaky idea, I like it!
  12. Ahh but of course I am assuming they were insured, cos that's the topic Also it's not Admiral that are doing this. It's a government mandate. Probably to cull the number of uninsured drivers on the road. Be nice if that mandate also fixed the max the renewal could go up by to protect us from the obvious exploitation of the oblivious. Besides if your so ontop of things how could they possibly sting you without you noticing? The only way they can get you is if you were going to become an uninsured menace on the road Hehe, your turn
  13. When I test drove it there was a bit of rumble/growl noise from the back end just when you first accelerate at low revs in too high a gear then dissapears as soon as the revs rise a bit which concerned me a bit never having driven one before. The dealer had never sold one before and didn't know what it was either so he had put a low price on to sell as he had bought it from a another dealer as a trade in. Luckily I manged to note the name and address of the last keeper who had owned it for over two years from the V5 and tracked his number on the internet. He said it had the same noise all the time he had owned it and it had never got any different in all that time and never had a problem. He was quite happy to discuss the car and he said it was sweet as with no problems. As the dealer had offered to drop another £300 off the price if I wanted it, I phoned him straight away and paid a deposit. Ended up getting it for a steal. (hopefully without this noise being a something serious, I may be asking for help on the forum if it is). At the price paid, I have allowed some cash free for a bit of repair. If it doesn't were quids in. ohh, if you have contact details of the previous owner did you ask if they stuck to super unleaded? that's a great one to get answered for piece of mind. also check out if/when the clutch was last changed as that's a part that will be wearing out about now. heck, run through the 2 guides in here just to get an idea of what might need work http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/77426-buyers-guide/ (2nd guide is just a few posts down) i think we've both got great deals for bagging an HR under £7K, or for you a smidgen over 6
  14. Or, one could take some personal responsibility to remember ones own renewal date and avoid both. Just sayin'. this is true, but how does that help you if an uninsured driver ploughs into the side of you? viva la auto-renewal
  15. So an update, Running costs wise I mostly rack up the motorway miles, and I am good at keeping a constant speed so I should be one of the lucky owners that gets close to the max mpg claims . I've been getting a good feel for the cost of parts, and while I have seen some big numbers most of the perishables are just fine. I'm just leaving the bargain bucket category of cars behind where each repair bill can easily cost as much as the car is worth. Used to hate being stuck with such cars but at least the MX-3 always felt worth buying back. The zed however, I think I'm going to have to set some hard and fast rules so I don't spend all my money on her, so many shinies I could add! Hehe, for the first year though, no mods due to insurance. Which is good as I can pour my money into savings and also getting her into the best shape possible. Speaking of insurance, now my licence is clean my insurance will half while the engine size will double! That alone more than pays for the steeper tax But perhaps most important news of all, my deposit is down and I'll be picking up my zed this weekend
  16. Welcome, and fingers crossed all is well. So many new owners this week!
  17. Haha, funny how the world works. I was thinking of seeing that one too, but the black one stole my heart when I saw her yesterday. So that means both HR's for under £7K got their deposit on the same day Did you find out why they priced it so low? Was planning on giving them a good quizzing over that if I had gone to see it. The silver one you went for would have been a more sensible choice for me, the price difference (plus part exchange) would mean the difference between living on beans and toast for the rest of the month or being able to eat normally. Problem is black is my favourite colour... Great to see both cars will end up on this forum!
  18. question, when she is all back together and you turn her over for the first time, will you shout "IT LIVES!"? the mad scientist in me wants to know
  19. It shall be mine, oh yes, it shall be mine! deposit is down, picking her up on saturday
  20. Hehe, the funny thing is I might actually be better off on a monthly basis with a massive drop in insurance (yay for a clean licence!) and a very similar mpg for the vast amount of motorway miles I chew up. I'm expecting 30mpg out of her compared to the 9mpg the car I test drove was showing, wonder if the dealership knew the zed kept track of the average mpg? Nahh, the only real problem is the zed I'm gunning for is more than my savings, by about how much space in my overdraft I will have by the end of the month, so yeah, gonna be a tight one! Just the one paycheck to hit though then it will be back to piling the money away, only this time for any breakdowns or maintenance. Thanks, I've already seen the needle move about with revs but now I know it's 60mph in 6th or just 2.5K RPM and to check for a reading of 60 PSI. Makes things a lot more flexible though I assume in both cases that's while cruising, so take the reading on the flat not on a hill when the engine is doing more work. Would anyone care to hazard a "do not go below" line on the pressure? Maybe take a 10% variation as being fine, so 54-66 psi would be ok, but if it's outside of that then it's a just walk away car?
  21. Am I right in thinking this is something to get fixed as soon as possible even if the oil pressure is fine at the moment? I'm just lining up the gun sights on my first zed and I'm getting the feeling I should be booking her in with Sly when the next pay check rolls in to get those paper gaskets out of an otherwise bombproof engine. Also I'm quite confused about oil temp vs oil pressure gauges. Maybe it's because this issue is common to the 350Z HR and the 370Z, but from what I've read (eg user manual download) the 350Z HR has an oil pressure gauge in the cluster to the side. So are you discussing the 370 when talking about swapping an oil temp for an oil pressure gauge? Edit: this is in the 370 section of the forum so yeah, I guess they did swap the pressure for temp when they made the 370.
  22. Before I start to waffle I wanted to add some handy info to this thread. Point for speeding increase insurance by about 30%. Points for driving without insurance increase premiums by about 70%! So even a doubled premium from an auto-renewal works out cheaper than a lapse of insurance, so I for one welcome our new auto-renewal overlords! **************** OK, the rest is waffle, feel free to skip to the next post Been sorting out insurance quotes today and, well, not my favourite way to pass the time. Naturally I called my current insurers first, they wanted to raise my monthly premium from £75 to £140. So naturally I wrapped the call up with details on how much it would cost to buy out early. Today I've done the meerkat thing and got some great quotes, 4 of them came in at under £50 a month! The difference? My current company want to sting me by £90 because they happen to know I'm driving a much slower car. Yet other companies that know nothing about me beyond my 9 years NCB are quite happy to give me a good deal. The best bit is the new premium will pay for the increase in car tax At this rate it might be cheaper to run a 3.5L V6 than it is to run a 1.8L V6! The other bonus is most of my miles are spent eating up the motorway, so I'll be getting the best MPG from the zed, which on paper is exactly the same as my much older tiny V6.
  23. Did my first test drive yesterday, she pushed me back in my seat as expected, but I did feel like a complete newbie again. Still, I've had a fair few cars and know it wont take me long to learn where the clutch bites, then she'll start to dance for me. I'm so used to blipping the throttle on my little 1.8 V6 when down shifting, the zed however made my blip look like more of a hoof. Another thing I'll adapt to after some hours behind the wheel, but that's the same with any new car and I'm quite looking forward to having something new to master. Thanks for the tips on oil pressure. Would the DE and the HR both behave the same with oil pressure, or might they run at different pressures? I know the HR had a lot of the internals reworked but don't know enough about engines in general to know if something like that would have changed. The DE I looked at yesterday was idling at 30PSI with the engine warmed up (cheeky beggers had got it warmed up before I arrived so I couldn't test a cold start). Didn't really get much chance to check her at 60 in 6th though as it was all winding country lanes round there. Will be seeing the zed I linked above tomorrow, also been working on a plan to pick her up on Saturday if the viewing and test drive goes OK. Had another chat with the guy and while he only has 1 normal key he wasn't sure if there was a master key, had to explain it would be a regular key with no buttons, probably with the paper work so we'll be looking for that when we go through the services etc. Not sure what the implications are if there is no master key, all I know is you need the master to program a new key. Is there any way to get round that if the master key is missing? There is also a crack in the front bumper, its fibreglass so probably a dealer fitted Nismo kit but I'm not confident I'll have the skills to patch it and paint it, so might have to look about for a bodywork shop to get some quotes. Does anyone know how prone to faceplanting into a speed bumps the Nismo V2 would be? From what I can tell it's the same height, but just sticks out a little further than stock. I'm mostly interested in just how slow I'd have to crawl over the speed bumps, not planning to use any to get air time! Feeling a bit calmer about it all now I've seen one, still going to screw myself over financially so the rest of this month will be tight, but cash flow is good right now and it is 1.2K below the budget I was aiming for so well worth the extra strain. That almost sounds sensible, the main advantage is I get a zed 4 months early, and who doesn't like beans on toast?
