    Drifting setup

Ok. I was always under the impression that a bit of negative camber on the front was good, so that’s maybe confirmed that. But how much is too much? I don’t mind going with adjustable arms and stuff I just think I will be better served using that money for either other mods (harnesses etc) or seat time. How big of a difference would an alignment make? As long as I have had the car I have never had one done of any sort! I work in a car dealership so I can get one done there pretty easy but am I going to get much benefit from it? Or do I need to go to a specialist?
  2. Dang!! that's a good looking seat!
  3. the problem there is I live in Scotland it would be a 5-hour drive each way to go to GSM. I understand that it's worth sitting in them but 10 hours is a bit much....... In the sense of seats im quite a slip chap but I think I will have to go based on what i can gather from the internet. will these do the trick for mounting the seats low enough https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Right-RHS-Lower-Position-Seat-Rail-Recaro-Sparco-Bride-Fit-Nissan-350Z-Z33/332400843391?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D846775eb847c4911b4cacad1dbd12b7d%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D332400843391&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A339d1a97-efc1-11e7-9090-74dbd1806e4b%7Cparentrq%3Ab7119d4a1600a61b03dbb06dffecd4ea%7Ciid%3A1 ill then use side mounts on the lowest setting ? with the custom fab job would i need to be able to weld ???? i don't mind drilling holes and cutting but i don't have a welder

What would you recommend geo wise? I’m reluctant to go as far as adjustable arms and stuff at the moment as I don’t think it will give me my money’s worth at my early stage. Should i I just get a general alignment done and go from there?
  5. Hi guys I'm sure this question will have been asked a million times but i am looking at getting some bucket seats and want to try and understand how high they will sit on sliders. Im 6'4 ish and sit as far back as possible in the standard seats. will I be able to fit with fixed back bucket seats on buddy club rails ? or am i going to have to go for the fixed mount ones ? im not sure which seat yet but i have tried a buddy club seat and it wasn't very comfy.
  6. I think the best one i saw was on the American forum, the guy had mounted the cruise control stuff next to were the TCS switch and Light wash switch are. That looked fairly tidy. I think its all in this thread https://my350z.com/forum/body-interior-exterior-and-lighting-diy/361581-diy-how-to-on-relocating-your-cruise-control-3.html#&gid=1&pid=1 another one I've seen is extending the wires and putting them in the ashtray in the centre console. And then there is a lot of people the just mount them between the BOSS and the QR but i think that looks ugly and would be hard to get to. I did however decide that the amount of work involved was just more than I was willing to put in so I ended up just not having the controls anymore. and to be honest i don't miss them at all never really used CC at all anyway and the stereo controls weren't great.

    Drifting setup

Right I decided since we have the new sub forum I’d start a post about what setups people are using. So I guess I’ll start us off. Im still very much a newbie to this so my car is still fairly standard. 30mm lowering springs 25mm front and rear spacers deep dish steering wheel standard rays - have 2 extra rears to save tyre changing time And for all the style points I have my BGW. Is there anything you would recomend that will be night and day, I’m thinking to get a bucket seat next and then harnesses. But would I be better to spend that money elsewhere? Could I get more out of a different mod. Its still my my daily and I don’t mind annoying but I’m not sure I’m ready for a welded diff just yet? post your setup below
  8. That’s awesome! Thanks guys I’ll look forward to seeing you all there
  9. Thanks for the speedy replies guys. Thats actually a really good shout. Thanks Alex I really appreciate that I will have to organise coming over at some point and ill get some off you.
  10. Hey Guys. Looking for a bit of advice really As some of you may have seen in my post in the suggestions section I am going to my very first drift practice day on the 28th of jan at Driftland. I like to think I'm fairly well aware of all the bits and bobs I will need on my first day but I'm sure there will be so many things I have forgotten and I know there are a few well experienced drifters on here. My list so far; Spare wheels - I bought a set of standard rear rays so will be using them Spare tyres - I currently have 1 extra set of rear tyres with 4-5mm on and then a set with about 2mm on. probably going to get another set on top of this it's probably going to be wet being in jan and in Scotland Jack Jack stands breaker bar ratchet set with almost every size socket other tools like spanners screwdrivers etc Im intending to do an oil change both engine and diff the week before the event as I believe the fresh oil should help make sure the v-lsd locks as it should and the engine oil will help keep the engine better looked after. I think i need to wear a helmet so i have one of them I would love to have a massive list of spare parts to take with me but i don't so if it breaks I'm pretty much gonna have to get it recovered. Any other useful info I should know before i take my first steps into legit drifting? Any words of wisdom?
  11. Yeah I understand where you are all coming from but just doesn't feel like there is a place to post certain things..... For example I am in the process of preparing for my very first drift day at the end of jan and was going to post a thread asking for advice on what I should and shouldn't take from other more experienced drifters, but I didn't know where would be the right place to post. So thought it could be nice to have a place for us all to chat and ask stuff like this. I understand what you mean and there is probably not that many.... but that surely is the reason to make them easier to find and put them all in the same place.
  12. Could we get a drifting subforum made in the motorsport section. would be nice to have a centralised place for all the Z drifters out there to discuss stuff and chat without it being all over the shop. I think we are getting to a point where there are enough drifters on here to be worth the time to make it. Cheers Lurch
  13. Price drop on steering wheel Now £50 Can deliver within Glasgow.
  14. So small update from the last few months .... I'm not really very good at keeping up with this stuff...... :/ Got the brakes sorted by Chris at Dyna tune in East kilbride, and I have to say top guy and good quality work from him So with maintenance out the way a couple more mods came after a trip to the BDC to see Iain @bizz Phillips' TarmacSportz350z weapon of a car. Seeing him and meeting the people that were there was great and has made me start getting into drifting a lot more seriously so from this point we started getting the car ready for learning to drift. First I upgraded to an aftermarket drift style steering wheel which is hooked up using the NRG short hub without a quick release. I'm a fairly tall guy and it would have been far too close to me with a normal QR on and Im not sure about the thin ones... I don't know if ill struggle getting in and out once I have got a bucket seat and harness sorted but I will have to deal with that once I get the seat. after this I was stuck on weather or not to strip the back of the car out.....I still use the car as a daily driver and worried it might be too much.... but then I decided to man up and just do it........ but keep it all in my shed incase its a really bad idea so this is all the stuff that came out.. And i only broke one piece!!!!!! and this is how the rear looks now. So then I went and picked up some GT rays to use as drift spares - 2 rears in decent condition for a good price - means i know they clear the brembos and i know the tire sizes next on the list is spacers, a bucket seat, harness and harness bar so keeping my fingers crossed that santa is good to me Now i just need to sort some tires for the spare wheels as they came with winters on and I am pretty much ready for my first event next month...
  15. Hey follks, I have a few bits and bobs that I'm not going to be using. so thought i would stick them on here. Original 350z steering wheel - complete with controls and airbag - £75 As you can see a little shiny but otherwise in good condition. Standard Springs off an MY04 - £20 All items are for collection from Glasgow.
  16. Ahh cool. I guess ill I'll see you all there
  17. Guys, Just a quick one I was wondering. BDC round 4 is happening at the end of the month at driftland. Thought it would be a good opportunity for us to have a meet up and support Iain 'Bizz' Phillips in his tarmac sportz lsZ. I was thinking we could meet up on the Sunday at the track. Tickets for Sunday are £20 on the gate. event details http://www.thebritishdriftchampionship.co.uk/events/bdc/round-4/
  18. Brakes didn't quite go to plan. Started with the back right and couldn't get the calliper bolts to come off. So rather than rounding them I got booked in for next week with dynatune for the discs and pads fitting. Shame I couldn't do it my self but better that than break stuff
  19. Thanks guys. Brakes arrived today so be getting them fitted on Sunday afternoon after the cars and coffee meet 🤓
  20. Nah man it was ruined! Bits of black coming off all over the shot so it got junked.
  21. Hey guys, though now i have actually done a few mods worth talking about i should probably keep a little log of it all. The day of the test drive and took her to my favourite spot by loch lomond the day she was delivered So I've had the car about 2 years now and have been really enjoying it but it certainly tied up a lot of funds to start with with insurance and finance payments so not a lot other than necessities were done so she stayed standard for quite a while. First thing i had to sort was a knocking at the front drives side so took it to Infinity in Glasgow to get it had a look at, they replaced tracked end and the drop-links to deal with the knocking and that solved that. next was its first MOT since i owned it which i don't know about you all but i find that quite nervy as you never quite know whats going to happen, but she passed with no advisories or anything so was very happy about that. after that the exhaust fell off... literally.. it was there when i got in and i dropped the wife at uni, drove home and it was sounding weird... well one of the standard exhaust tips (the bit that came from the back box out) was missing completely....... ..... so i guessed the right thing to do was have a proper look underneath the car and see what else was in good / bad condition with the exhaust.. and the hole back box had rusted and the flange to the mid pipe was pretty bad so time for a new shiny exhaust..... went for a Japspeed K4 - I was aware a lot of people on here didn't rate them but id used there stuff before when i had a civic and had no issue so thought id give it a go.... and its GREAT :teeth: true dual and all the looks of an invidia or HKS but for less than £600 so up on the jack stands she went and got fitted...with a trip to a local garage to drill the cat studs out so i could use the bolts provided and didn't have to worry about rounding nuts. and while under the back end of her i though i might as well do the bumper tuck .... so i used a few cable ties and this was the results. then decided to remove the rear wiper... I'm 6'5 and can't see anything out of it at all anyway so why worry about a wiper  changed over to a square front plate after that. then a LED conversion on interior and number plate lights. then i gave her a full P3 kinda service Oil - Castrol magnetic 5w30 HKS purple oil filter iridium spark plugs gear box oil change and moly slip cosworth air filter full nissan coolant change with flush then came time for new tires so fronts and rears went to fk453's - find these a really good tire and haven't had 1 ounce of bother with them. did this and then a few months later got a check engine light ... took her to infinity and they said it was cam position sensor so got that sorted. then came the decision to upgrade my knob... so went for a full carbon fibre one and it properly changed the way the interior looks  also thought i should try and sort out the clouding on the lights before And after and this is how she looked after all that so decided that i wanted to make some more drastic changes and always been into the drift/timeattack styling for a car so first thing i had to do was get my self a BIG GAY WING so thats what i got and got that fitted after that i realised it looked like a 4x4 with a GT wing on it so got some 30mm lowering springs and me and the old man fitted them. before is at the bottom sitting much better now but started to realise that the back looked quite good and the front a little unbalanced so got myself a nice front lip and fitted that. thought i would give this tyre writing a bash and see what i thought...... it pretty much looks crap.... since lowering it unfortunately a knock has appeared at the front again, took it to infinity agian and they thought it could be drop links again - i changed the drop-links over to adjustable ones and set them up... no dice... knock still there so now trying for think what it will be ... probably need to get banana arm the bush looks pretty torn up infinity also told me that i needed to get some new brakes soon as i was about 75% on the backs and 90% on the fronts.. so a message to @mitz from cougarstore and he sorted me out with some black diamonds disc that were supposed to be delivered today but i was at work so ill get them on thursday So thats us up to date like i said it will not be a lot that happens at once but I will do my best to keep this up to date. more pics from along the way just coz i can on the album just click any of the pics above... Thanks for reading so far
  22. Stay out bishopbriggs way was just surprised I'd never seen it.
  23. Just spent all morning reading through this thread. It's epic. You seem to be Glasgow based. I don't think I've ever seen your car though ?
