  1. Thanks. Not sure on the grandparents.. I think it was "great" grandparents who were born in UK. That's a stretch lol. So,.. my citizenship would be based on time 'served' or how long I lived in the UK.. "Naturalization" I believe. From what I read there is no dual citizenship if you have no parents, etc born there..
  2. Thanks for the welcome. Heh, I am actually going to visit the UK sometime in the next 12-18months (if things go as planned),.. and I am considering emigrating permanently to the UK,.. already have quite a few friends over there, but mostly because I really think I'd enjoy living there more than the US. Might take me 6-7+ years to get my citizenship (and I think US makes you renounce your US citizenship.. typical..) but,.. that's a ways off, and many things have to fall into place for it to happen. I was just being "different" and silly with the title. With threads like this most people are just like.. oh humm.. boring. So I said "seeking disinterested forum members" No disrespect meant. Yeah that's the second time I've gotten that in this thread,.. as you can see in my response above,.. I am a manual/stick shift guy for life apparently. Thank you very much. Nice of you to say,.. appreciate it. You will find I am a bit wordy when I type (not like that face to face..),.. so just fair warning that my posts will be longer than average. I'm used to TL:DR responses And.. no, definitely haven't deserted this place. Just didn't think to check this thread out, frankly I didn't expect quite this welcome. Makes me feel like I'm in the right place. I'll be spending much more time here! Thanks, and Birmingham, Alabama. Yes, I'm in the south,.. no I'm not a redneck. (Do have a bit of the accent of course.) Thanks, and appreciate the compliment on the Z (or shall I call it appropriately the Zed? ) Fantastic! The post above this one I , as requested, showed and linked the antenna "mod" for a few dollars. Think I've covered all the responses, wow! Appreciate this warm welcome everyone!
  3. Thanks! On a serious note, if you find stuff in the US that needs a US "resident" to help things along to get it to you .. I'll be glad to help. Gracious. Hahah.. I'm not your typical "American".. and, I can't stand to drive Automatics. I've owned one car that was automatic, as hard as I tried to like it.. I couldn't, and had to get rid of it for a manual. Had 8 cars,.. 7 of them Manuals. Just doesn't feel right if I'm not shifting. But, in America (and much of the "western" world..) the vast majority see manuals, at best, for sports cars... and I would guess 95%+ of vehicles here are automatics now. Hurts me sometimes to see 350's and such in automatic. I had 3 criteria when I was shopping for this Z. 1) Must be Manual. 2) Must NOT be convertible, and 3) Less than 50k miles. Not too particular, but last car was convertible and I'll never buy a convertible again unless it's a secondary car (of which I can't afford but one right now).. too loud with the ragtop.. prone to leaks, and really makes the chassis looser than a coupe. (Not that I'm a track guy). Merci! Much appreciated. I am in the great city of Birmingham,.. and like you guys, who tend to give people from Birmingham, UK a tough time.. Birmingham here is the best city in this state,.. but the state is Alabama,. so we get a tough time of it as well. If you visit the southeast,.. and go through Alabama,.. Only areas really worth going through are 1) Birmingham, (Highway 280 area/Summit/Galleria etc..).. 2) Huntsville (northern AL), and 3) The beach. Thanks mate. Well, these cars do come from Japan,.. but I would tend to think due to population size and sheer size of the states that we may have it better as well in variety. Costs should be fairly equal, unless you guys are having to import your mods from the US or Asia. Salut, and Merci, mon ami. Yeah,.. I'm a bit unusual in that regard. I value the community and people of a forum more than how "Big" it is.. I am on one other forum,.. you know the one. Oh as for the Antenna -- Sure: Here's the stock antenna .. just for before and after. (You can click on any of these images for larger ones if need be ) Here's the $3 Antenna (Believe it comes stock on Dodge Avenger?) installed: I think it looks much better personally. Less than 1/2 the height of stock,.. And I'm particular with how things match up, and I know you guys are too. So here's a close up of where it screws into the base of the mast. It's a perfect match imo. Here's the invoice (which has part number on it, so you don't get the wrong piece if searching around for it): Apparently mine came from New Orleans And if you like it -- The guy increased the price slightly.. from $3.11 to $4.74 (Still worth every cent, imo). This antenna I'd happily pay $20-30 for,.. because it looks so much better and , for ME, gets better reception oddly enough. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOPAR-OEM-5064253AB-Antenna-/190926608350?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c741cd7de&vxp=mtr No, that's not me selling it hehe. You can find that thing using the part number on all kinds of websites, Car part places,.. Dodge and I think even Chevrolet dealerships , etc. Ebay is certainly not where you have to buy it,.. it was just easy for me to click a button and the cheapest I found after shopping around for 5 minutes.
  4. Awesome.. This forum seems very friendly. Just what I was after, and had anticipated from you UK'ers I will be "Modifying" the car as the months and years go along as money and time allows. So far have done about 2 weekends worth of serious detailing (even removing panels in the engine bay and literally vacuuming and cleaning..) lol. What else.. hrmm.. I've dropped 2 K&N filters in the dual intake of the '08 motor,.. Found a perfect fit 7" antenna to replace the Fishing rod that comes factory. (Haven't posted it cause I didn't want to get scolded like other forums I've been on for posting something that's been talked about before ). But for $3 US it's a nice little "mod" to make the exterior just that bit more appealing/sleek, and oddly enough reception is better with it, even though it's 196mm compared to the 406mm stock antenna. -- I've already put a new set of Tires on her,.. Got a good deal on a set of Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Potenza's,.. thus balanced, mounted, and aligned (was WAY out of alignment.. had the common front low speed tire noise from misalignment previously.) -- Replaced the driver side switch panel that likes to get scratched up on the 06-08 models,.. Tinted windows,.. Rear spacers on wheels, and a Pioneer doubledin touchscreen Headunit - AVH-P4100DVD. Coming up is replacing the stock speakers with some nice components up front, a custom sealed Sub box that fits in the factory slot behind the drivers seat, new wiring, and amp(s). Then I'll probably go for something more performance related. These cars are so awesome, and not bad to maintain,.. but for me, at least, you get bit by the bug to continue to add things to it, and/or fix minor details.. which results in a lightweight wallet. Thanks for the kind welcome, much appreciated Oh: Edit: -- In case anyone cares. It's cloth interior,.. (I wanted it that way) -- (grey/black),.. with a 6 Speed Manual Trans.
  5. Hey guys,.. and ladies.. Thought I would properly introduce myself. I am a 34 year old guy from across the pond in the US. Though I guess you could call me a bit of an Anglophile (My heritage is from Glasgow (ie: Father's side has last name of McAllister lol)..) and the other side is from a little town just south of London. Was born here in the US however,.. :/ I run a 24/7 "Channel", if you will,.. that hosts only UK shows.. ie: QI, Fry and Laurie, 8/10 cats, etc.. (Not linking anything here.. that's not why I'm here. ) I'm here because of my new love.. Yes, my new (used) 2008 350Z, got her with 26k miles,.. that's new to me, and the car is even better than I had hoped for. Anyhow,.. I am glad to be here, and hope I won't be too much of a nuisance with my incessant questions. (Though eventually it turns around and I start giving back with DIY's and helping others with those same questions. ). Take care,
  6. Sure thing,.. I meant to do so earlier! Nice eye,.. especially on noticing the spacers at that angle. You are spot on with car. It's Stock 2008 350Z,.. Spacers, Tint (lol), 2 Drop in K&N's (I think the stock air intake setup is fairly good), Clutch adjustment, Detailed (Hand wash, clay bar (3 hours), Rotary Polish with XMT 3, then XMT 1, Hand wax with NXT 2.0, then topped that off this prev. weekend with a Carnauba Gold Parrafin "wax". (Yes, I'm a detail freak.. I even wax my wheels.. I'm pathetic).
  7. lol.. Yeah the older models 03-05 didn't have this issue.. then they changed it in newer models and it's very common. Doesn't take much to scratch it up. Looks like freddy crouger drove it.. -- I guess if you wear a ring and maybe a watch it does it in a short period of time.. I guess I'll do what I was thinking and what you guys say.. just get a marker. I'll probably get some sort of paint pen/marker though instead of just a regular sharpie so it'l stay on better. I also have just a slight nick on the opening above the head unit.. but it looks a mix between dark gray and black.. not sure what color matches it. Maybe a touch with black will blend it "good enough" though. I just got this car 2'ish weeks ago.. And that panel makes it look like a beater.. but it's really in great shape with 26k miles,.. Here's the car itself: Thanks
  8. Hi, First post here.. but I have a great deal of friends from the UK,.. and thought I'd join your community. Had my 08' 350Z for about 2 weeks or so now, and love it. I searched, but nothing popped. I know many of you have had this same issue, and have used various methods to resolve it.. so thought I'd get some quick replies before I went and bought something random. The scratches on the Driver window switch grip/panel. It's the only part of the car that's blemished, and it's bad! Wow. Well, I was going to just pop it out and do the work to refinish myself, but said what the heck, it's the only piece .. I'll go ahead and order a new one OEM. So spent the $89 or so,.. and have it sitting here. However, there's a bit of scratching on the piece BELOW the switch panel.. it's not much, .. so I thought I could just touch up that piece without pulling anything else off but the top piece I am replacing. Thing is, it's not the easiest to get to with any type of spray, so I'm going to need to do it with some sort of paint brush. (Something, I would imagine, like a girls fingernail polish kit/bottle) - but durable and would cover the spots up reasonably enough. I also thought maybe a black sharpie, or a black paint marker/pen. What have you guys had the best luck with when just touching up black trim pieces like this? I think I have some photo's of it.. yes, here we go. This is a picture I took from an angle that shows the few scratches below the new piece I am replacing: Actually edited the photo to be a little more specific Any tips would be most helpful,.. and I realize this is a topic that has probably been rehashed many times over,.. I apologize for my ineptness at using the search function on this forum.. It didn't turn up any results . Thanks so much,
