  1. Had a look and its definitely knackered, used the organic ramps (convenient tree root) outside the house to get it in the air without messing with stands and stuff.

My worry is getting the bolts out from the cats, anyone had this battle and how did they win it, I had to do the ones on the Y pie to mid section and it involved a cutting disk in a grinder and then drilling the remainder out which killed a couple of drills, are there any better techniques ?

Even less want to spend any money on it as some kind soul knocked the mirror off my wifes car last night and peed off, £130 for that, I hope they meet with an unfortunate case of screaming Dutch **** (or fanny) rot.

  2. I just dont want to spend £300/400 on a bit for underneath the car, not been planning on modding this one too much as plan to have a change next year (370Z maybe) so dont want it standing me at a vast amount, I spent £425 on he Cobra so with one at £150 ish I will have spend almost £600 on a car exhaust which seems like plenty to me ! not expecting any more power as not doing an uprev, the standard one has lasted 8 years and the aftermarket ones should be at least as good as are Stainless Steel.

As long as it fits ok, the welds are ok I cant really see the point of spending more.

  3. I replaced the back/mid pipe of my 350 with the Cobra sports exhaust but I seem to have a blow which I think it the Y pipe so going to order one, dont want to spend £300 and I see some on Ebay for for £120 - £150 which I think is about as much as I am willing to pay, are they ok and will they hook up to my Cobra ?

Do the Y pipes leak at the flexi, suppose I need to get under it and have a look round when its running but the weather is too grim.

Oh, also, are the bolts on the cats fixed to the cats or free, the Y pipe to mid pipe ones were and I had to drill them out which was a colossal pain in the arse, its only six bolts to change the Y pipe but I bet it wont give up without a fight, am hoping the cat bolts arent captive, the ones to the mid pipe should be ok as only been on 18 months.

  4. Not worth it letting you down, I bought a battery yesterday, the Z luckily has a common "005" type so they arent all that expensive, I paid £55 for a Halfords own brand one using a trade card, but that took it down to the normal Ebay price for one inc delivery.

Mine was the original from 2007 so not doing bad, it was getting lazy so I put my trickle charger on it which helped but all the messing about fitting the stereo killed it and thought it wasn't worth waiting any longer,

  5. When doing my stereo I thought it would be good to put the top down to allow some more light in, car had other ideas, it got to the point of nearly being folder before the lid comes down and stopped.

I had heard that 350Z tops can be a bit recalcitrant when cold,it has never given me an issue before so am hoping it is just the temperature, I read that it is 60F(16C) and I am not sure what the temp was but it wasnt 16c ! about 7 I think but I would have thought it would still work, part of the joy of a convertible with heated seats and a decent heater is goign out on cold crisp days.

I was thinking it may be time to lubricate some of the mechanism as I doubt its been done, what should I use or is it best to leave it alone ?

Anyone else had this problem and will it go away when the temp rises or do I have a big bill looming ?

  6. Well, got it swapped over at the weekend for this Pioneer

Using the kit off Ebay and it all works, including the steering wheel controls, not a job I want to repeat through, very fiddly compared to swapping other stereos I have done.

I did the "Buster mod" as the volume was pitiful otherwise.

The Pioneer sounds a bit better than the Bose and feature wise is way better, for £99 it was a bargain, I remember stereos being way more expensive than that in the 80s, I put a 64 GB USB memory key in it, little tiny one that only sticks out a cm or so, £17 off Amazon.

  7. Yes, will do, hopefully it wont be too much of a pain to do, did consider one of those with a big screen but it was getting expensive and I dont use the car that much, if I can do this for £170 then I am happy, stereos used to a lot more expensive, £100 for the Pioneer seems fantastic, looks pretty flexible.

  8. I have a 2007 296 bhp Convertible in Grey, only 38k.

From those who have had a Coupe and a convertible, is there much difference between them to drive, is the extra weight noticeable ?

Might sell mine soon, fancy a change, is there much price differential between Coupes and Convertibles ?

  9. Mine has the OEM Bose, the CD just skips all over the place which is intensely annoying, I tried a cassette gutted, drilled full of holes and filled with Silica Gel Packs, to no avail.

What are my options for having a working source of music playback (other than tapes/radio)

Dont want to spend much as I dont really do huge mileages, just want something to plug and play that doesn't involve a degree in car audio electronics.

Can the OEM stereo be sent away to teach it the error of its ways ?

  10. Mine was a 2.0T, with the BSR Remap, would say it was pretty much as quick as my Zed, wouldn't go so far as to call it a fridge on wheels, was a pretty decent car but it didnt have a lot of personality in comparison to the Zed.

  11. A 350Z should be a quicker, by 3 sec to 100, not a huge margin but they are quicker, on the road it doesn't always pan out like that, especially with tuned vs standard.

If that was the case then that would be reflected in the 1/4 mile times since the terminal speeds are about 100mph for both but the difference is around .5 of a second

On the circuit the vrs is no slouch either of course that's not what the fan boys on here want to hear but I've driven the 350z and owned a 350hr and now own a 370z

As for comments I've had about the same amount of positive comments on both cars but I didn't buy my cars for any kind of kudos unlike some and couldn't give a fig what other people think

Enjoy the zed for what they are but there are lots of quickens cars out there that's just a fact

Was just going off the figures I found, 17 ish to 100 for the Fabia and 14 ish for the 350Z.
