  1. Unfortunately I've reached the point with the 370Z where I've lost faith in the car. I bought the car brand new last year, and in 18mths of ownership it has spent 2mths off the road, which frankly is totally unacceptable.

Now I love the car, love how it looks, love how it drives..... but.... it's one problem after another, and tbh it's been the most problematic car I've owned.

However, here is the problem.... I'm void of inspiration on what to get to replace the Z.

The 370Z is a very rare car, and that is something I really liked about it, that and the fact people looked at it. This in mind I'm finding it hard to get excited at browsing around for new cars, because unless I spend a lot of money - I'm never going to get that head turn factor again.

Part of the problem is I don't know what I want. Do I want a comfortable car, sports car... I dunno.

My only rule is it has to be under 4yrs old and of the current model shape. I'm happy to pay up to £500pcm with a £7k deposit. The running costs also should exceed that of the Z by too much. I do 20K miles a year and the car will be my daily driver. I'm also not keen on going Japanese again.

I've been looking at M class Mercs, XK-R's, GT-R's, RS5's, but... whether it be price, running costs, etc... somethings made me baulk.

    Inspire me people.

  2. Also trying the brake bed in procedure and it's getting worse, much to the point I question if the car is actually safe to drive as it's lurching to the side sometimes on braking now.

The vibration is now massive on braking..... easily the worst I've experienced in my driving life.

I'm starting to think it's more than a simple warped disc....

  3. Mate.

You and this car :( .

    Tell me about it.

For all the pro's of the Z, and the things I love about it..... it's been a pretty awful car, and not a great ownership experience from the dealership.

First and last Nissan I'll own :(

  4. Put it into my mates garage and on the rolling road. Got over 35% imbalance in the brakes.... so somethings went wrong.

discs still have about 70-80% wear on them...... off to nissan we go.

  5. Doubt I locked the wheels, the ABS kicked in, besides the road was damp and I don't see a flat spot.

Balance weights - appear to all be there. I'd expect any missing ones would be leave a mark where they once were.

The alignment still appears fine. Hands off the wheel and the car still wants to go straight. Also checked for blisters and the likes, but nothing.

I had to drive home from Lancaster to Glasgow after my night shift..... The vibration through the car is at it's worst around motorway speed, however ease off 10-15mph and it is a bit better. I never tried faster than motorway speed. I would say it appears to be getting worse with increased mileage.

Under braking the car is ok at higher speed, but once it gets to about 20-30mph there is a very marked vibration through the wheel, the wheel shakes maybe 2cm in either direction.

It feels very much like a warped disc..... I just don't see how I could warp a disc instantaneously by doing the manoeuvre described. Also the fact it appears to be getting worse, when I've barely touched my brakes on a 180 mile motorway drive, makes me wonder.

  6. I was driving down the motorway when a lorry about 100m in front had a blow out. Out of instinct I braked hard as there was a tyre carcass being blown across the road (thankfully nothing behind), scrubbing 30-40 mph off.

I'm now getting terrible vibration when cruising at speed, and when light braking at in town speed. This just appeared to happen with this one braking incident.

I thought warped disc, but.... I wouldn't expect warping so suddenly.

    Any ideas?

  7. French Autoroute from Grenoble to Reims last week. 365 miles with the cruise set most of the way between 78 and 84mph gave us 33 MPG. Can't complain at that at all.

I seemed to average mpg much higher mpg in France.

I suspect the fact roads are fairly flat and smooth tarmac may be a factor.

  8. I rented a '13 V8 Mustang for a couple of weeks when in the states in April.

Looked amazing..... drove awful. Lazy gearbox, and I genuinely had more confidence in corners in the works van than the 'stang. I didn't expect the 'stang to be great in either regard, but it didn't even meet my lowly expectation. The Z would murder it in the hands of a normal driver.

We will see what the new version is like.

  9. Actually, if I'm thinking about it, almost every single car I've ever owned from new has had a problem within 3 months, except once - a Toyota Celica (!). So around 5 out of 6 cars has been back to the dealer for something annoying. No awards for them from me anyway!

Oh, and the TVR. That didnt have ANY issues. Except when it caught fire that time...

But that was in a class of its own.

Z is the worst car I've owned for visits to the garage.

Also the first band new car I've bought.

  10. Just reading this there's a situation I witnessed a few years ago and always wondered who'd be to blame as I never got to find out. I gave a witness statement to the insurance, and heard nothing about it ever again.

Basically. I was behind a couple of cars on an A road. A small lorry/van thing pulled out a B road junction crossing, causing the lead to take evasive action or T bone the lorry that pulled out at about 50mph.... He swerved left onto the junction, clipped another car waiting to pull out and went through the hedge. Myself and the other car in the traffic line had more time to brake and hit nothing, and the small truck that pulled out the junction and caused the accident also escaped unscathed.

100% the small trucks fault, and AFAIK he got done for dangerous/careless driving, but he had no damage, so have always been unsure who was liable.

  11. I didn't have time to go with a tech. I work 7 till 7, and struggle enough to get an hour off to drop it off.

They did the road test as described by me.

However even with me driving, I'd struggle to simulate it during the day as the roads are too busy to drive in a 'sporty' style.

  12. I'm waiting on the service manager calling back. I'm pretty certain they will admit responsibility, as they do a walk round and there were no chips on it (I care for the car well... my body work is pristine bar a few tiny stone chips on my front bumper, I know there was no chips on it).

Problem is it is the Newcastle HPC it was in as I was working down here..... Friday is my last day of working in Newcastle. Then back to Glasgow for the weekend and off to Lancaster for 2.5mths on Monday.

  13. So, I took my car into Nissan with a clutch issue. They checked that out then pressure washed it... and I've now got a 5p sized bit of paint missing from my spoiler.....

    Problem after problem after problem......
